Meter Question

I have looked at meters a couple of times. To be honest, the choices are a little overwhelming.

Here's a couple I noticed while browsing.

Here's one I found visually appealing. This is what I'm looking for if I'm looking for something that will measure boost pastt the stock meter right?

On this meter below, which claims to be boost/vacuum, how can it measure two different things when it looks like it only has one needle?

The first one is only a boost gauge. It will measure up to 30 psi of positive pressure, or "boost".

The second measures vacuum and boost, the vacuum is measured on the left hand side of the gauge, it can be looked at as negative "boost" or pressure. You cannot have positive boost and vacuum at the same time, so you only need one needle.

Most folks choose a 5701 phantom series. Some choose the Lunar series because it glows green at night like stock. All the others are just wrong:tu:. The engine is in vacuum while cruising and only sees boost under moderate+ acceleration.

check out the nv series auto meter gauges, i have them and i think they look better than the lunar, they have a bright green glow to them:tu:

Look closer. If you are not under boost, you will be under vacuum. The guage measures both with the same needle. :cool:

ok. Now I understand the part about one needle and vacuum. I've only ever heard of people wanting to measure boost. How does it help to know what your vacuum measurement is?

Long-term it could be beneficial in tuning the truck if you ever went to some more aggressive aftermarket cams. Also, can help in diagosing a vacuum leak. To me, every "boost" gauge has a corresponding vacuum side to it, but I know dragsters don't care about vacuum. :)

They should if their brakes are vacuum assisted;)

Nah... that's what the 'chute is for. :D

I think that you should go with a mechanical boost gauge and not an electric. Its 1/3 of the price, easier to install, and just as accurate. I have both. The electric one has a GM type map sensor that you have to use...it's unnecessary.
