Rescheduled for December 10
(due to weather conditions)

December 3, 2006 TALON Fall Classic
Thunder Valley in Noble, OK
Gates open at noon

http://www.okthunder.com/

After last years event, I think it is time to try something a little different. The Thunder Valley track in Noble, OK is an excellent venue and they have agreed to run our program for us this year. The event will be on Sunday, December 3rd. The track opens at noon and closes at 5 PM, Fees will be $8 for spectators. $15 for test and tune, and an additional $20 if you want to race in the program. We will not get hosed like the folks at TEMPLE ACADEMY DRAGWAY hosed us last year. Folks that race in the TFC will pay a total of $35. Hopefully we can draw some Arkansas & Oklahoma Lightning guys so spread the word. More details to come...

Many of the guys (including myself) have run at this track and it is very nice.

Race classes will be the same as LightningFest. There will be one race for the Top Dawg award which will be a matchup between the winners of both classes. There will be a cash prize as well as a trophy for this race. These are both bracket classes. The fastest guys will have to be satisfied with the Quickest ET trophy. Since this is a club event, everyone should have an equal shot at winning something and I think that is the fairest way to do things.

Street Lightning / 13.00and slower...
1st Place - Street Lightning
Runner-Up - Street Lightning

Pro Street Lightning / 12.99 and quicker...
1st Place - Pro Street Lightning
Runner-Up - Pro Street Lightning

Awards available to all participants and must be recorded during competition.
Qualifying runs do not count.

It's PINKS @ Ennis on the 21st, like the one they had about a month ago. It's not for "pink" slips, pays about $3,000-4,000. A old school Chevy truck won last times. I think it ran 10.2s or so.

OK, cool then. I watch Pinks if its not a re-run but no way would I run slip for slip unless I had a big, big bank account or a business for the advertisement.

What about the fastest ET?

wesman
10-25-2006, 11:56 AM
Also being that the trucks are getting faster and faster, several being in the 11's and a couple in the 10's perhaps it's time to have 1-2-3 for fastest ET's/heads up racing instead of just brackets.

Just a thought

--wes

Sixpipes
10-25-2006, 12:48 PM
My thoughts on heads-up is as follows; I think the fastest truck at the event should be recognized. If we have a heads-up class, I would assume that the lowest ET would come out of that event. I don't see an additional fee for running both classes, so there would be nothing preventing someone from running brackets and also running heads-up. Assumption is that the winner in heads-up would have the quickest ET, but maybe not. We can add a lowest ET like years past if we want. Also the $20 racing fee should put some money into the pot for the overall heads-up class winner. I am willing to donate all revenue over the cost of the trophies to the heads-up winner if folks don't have a problem with that or maybe a 75%/25% of pot money for 1st & 2nd. Maybe the OKC guys show up, maybe not, but I think I will start promoting to other forums this weekend. Any help would be appreciated in getting this off the ground. ThunderValley is a nice track and the time I was there, it was very well run.

Whaaat- that's been the hilight of the last few years Fall Classics with a follow up to Dennis vs Mark. The later should be good since they are both sporting KB's.

Maybe we can find a good match up for the built motor/whipple combo (Michael) this year.

Honestly it will be a long shot for me to be race ready for the TFC this year, I still dont have M&H rubber for my 16" bogarts, havent had time to see Brandt about them, still have to get the truck back to Terry's to install the fuel pumps get the exhaust welded up getting rid of the bassani exhaust clamps, install the drive shaft loop, buy new drag radials, pay Terry the money still owed to him, and the Whipple isnt going to be here for another 2-4 days, plus the motor only has 300 miles on it with the break in tune, so I will probably just be hanging out this year

I would guess for a re-schedule. I know at least at tracks around here, if the temps fall below a certain level, they won't open. Couple low temp on race day with the weather we have been getting the last few days, and it doesn't look good

It looks dubious at this time. Roads in OK city are "slick and hazardous" Projected high today is 33-deg and 36-deg tomorrow and Sunday. So likelyhood of roads clearing is slim.
That being said, if the track is open, and TFC goes on, I will be there.

Have left messages on track office phone, cell phone, and sent email. Recording says they will be running this weekend November 26th so the recording has not been updated. I would expect the track to be closed, but would be nice to have confirmation.

Or we can make the choice to reschedule for the 10th right now if that makes sense to everyone (it does to me). What say ye?

I would rather reschedule and be sure it will be open. It would suck to drive all the way up there and then find out they're closed.

Thanks for doing all the legwork for the club Dennis

Since I was not going to make it, I have been hesitant to throw in here, but alas......I am opinionated as hell....so here goes.

With the temps being so low....below 30....it is going to make for problems in 3 ways. 1) Tunes on trucks better be right, or Terry will need a car hauler from hell to get all the blown trucks back to town. 2) Cold temps like that may make the track very slick and getting it warmed up is going to be next to impossible. 3) Somebody better have a big ass heater to keep everyone warm or the ability to sit outside and socialize is nonexistant. I suppose everyone can talk to each other on the walkie talkies from their trucks....while they run them to keep the heat working.

Just talked with Marsha at Thunder Valley. The track may or may not be opened based on expected temperatures so I think we have done the only thing that we could do by delaying the event until the 10th. December 10, is the last scheduled day the track will be open this year, but even if the track is open this Sunday, everyone will be freezing their collective a$$es off because we more than likely will have a breeze which translates in to wind chill issues. If you believe in extended forecasts (who the H3LL does in TX/OK?), we should be OK.

Just to clarify for everyone attending tomorrow at Thunder Valley. The fee at the gate will be $8 for spectators and $15 for Test & Tune. This money will go to the track. I (or a designated person to be named later) will collect money for the BBQ ($10) and the TFC race fee ($20). There will be buy-backs for 1st round losses only. The $10 buy-back fee will be collected before the second round starts.

I hope to have a drivers meeting by 2:30 PM with racing to start hopefully by 3PM. Dial-in numbers can be changed for each race. All questions will be answered at the driver's meeting. Breakfast at 9 AM at the Cracker Barrel in Denton for those interested and leaving said location by 10 AM. :nana2

I was involved in a two car accident and my understanding is the two passengers in the other vehicle are ok. :D

This is first and foremost in my mind.

Second this was a hard hit and I am lucky that the safety equipment in my vehicle did it's job.

I walked away and other than a sore hand I seem to be OK. I really thought I would be in much worse shape today.

It was a pretty scary sight to be able to see the underside of a Lightning in the air, I mean the car that hit John was moving pretty fast to lift it up in the air, if you look at the pics in the gallery you can see where the driver side rims/tires are messed up from where the truck landed and came back down, luckly it wasnt a taller truck or it would have rolled over, luckily we still had a good number of people and had Doug, Derrick and others to help block traffic

It was a good day though, thanks again Silky for the BBQ, the left over ribs made for a good lunch :tu:

All,

I had a great time and it is always fun to see the faces and trucks.

Sorry to see Dennis go out so early...
Sorry to see the other L crunched...
Good to see we have a great group of guys willing to help out...

I was wandering why I didn't get passed on the way back... my Gen 1 with 140k miles doesn't like going 90 for long periods of time... so I was trying to get in front of the group in case anything happend on the way back.

I appreciate all the help along the way to the finals... not sure I actually had to beat anyone heads up until the Top Dawg race (which I lost). Everyone either broke out or red lighted I think.

Thanks to Dennis for all the work and effort that went into the event... I thought it was great... Wish we would have seen some of the OK boys there... I thought the facility was nice, although the 60' prep could have been a little better.

The BBQ was also great. Those sausages made you think twice before getting some more. :)

Thanks,
