hey guys, getting the truck ready for a built motor.

my eventual setup will be:

monster box (do i need it?)
built motor with cams
torque converter of some kind
complete exhaust system with long tubes and high flow cats
eventually 75 shot of nos (like the zex system)

going to use stock s/c since alot of people are still happy with it.

first priority is the built motor.

was wondering what is the best route. lower end package with 03 heads and street crower cams..or just buying a built short block with the goodies in it?

do you plan on doing it yourself?

If you have the money, I would buy a long block from a tuner. Its alot easier. And pretty much thay stand behind their products. There's no warrenty as far as I know but, if theres a problem I'm sure thay will work it out. I have to admit JDMs 03 beefy blocks caught my attention. As far as the cams I decided not to change them, due to longer life of my block. Fox Lake in my opinion is the best in the head buisness from what I've learned. My valves can in today, sure are perty!:nana2 Do alot of research and you can save lots. Good Luck!

thanx! think i'm going with the jdm long block. like to hear what terry has to say after running his.

and no, I'm not doing it myself. i'm not very mechanical when it comes to motors. it's like a blind man can't read.

I just want a more dependable motor that can handle more HP that i don't have to worry about. Even if i decide to run a different blower, new motor = more options and hopefully more dependable.

Natetrun,

Just to give the "contrarian" point of view...IMHO...OUR STOCK SUPER CHARGERS ARE SH#T!!!!!
Good gawd...you put 15lbs of boost through them and with one lousy pass, they heat up and start sucking power out like a darned hoover.
It kind of cracks me up seeing all us out at the track packing bags of ice all over the darned things.
With a more effecient super charger, you could pull off at least 18lbs of boost and with alot better results, due to the reduced heat build up.

The super charger is my next major mod...unless I vent my block first.

But to get back to your list of what you want to change...if you plan on going more than about 450 H.P. and more than about 550 ft lbs of torque...you'll be buying a built tranny wether you want to or not. When you do...The Monster Box is the way to go. I just put mine in and I love it. I also went with the 13" Art Carr 2400 stall and my 60' times are down a tenth the first night running it...not bad I guess.

You may want to call develdawg92. He posted that he sold his L and he has a few items on your wish list.

Why am I up???? Because I am a loon....:d

I have this little sleeping issue. I fell asleep about 9 and at 12 my son called me. I had to go pick him up at his school. They went to Austin for a debate tournament and decided to come home tonight.

We'll be at Ennis again Friday. You should come out. If not, I guess we will meet you at Speed Works Sat.

Its kind of sad, when we buy, The Worlds Fastest Production Truck, and whine about its equipment. Don't get me wrong, after seeing the 03 Cobra's with Manley rods it p$$$$ me off. They can make some serious power. But like they say, Speed is a question of money... How fast do you want to go....and that is a question I keep asking myself all the FN time!:D

what time yall meeting at ennis? i would like to blow the cob webs out of the ol truck. never raced at the track before. if there is anything interesting out there, maybe ill run it.

Track opens at 6.....racing starts at 7. If you get there early you can get 2 runs in before the crowd builds up.:d I managed to get 4 runs in this Friday.

I just tried again..it's full again. I give up on it. Are you using that P.M. for porn or something????...J/K

Here is what I was saying....

Thats some funny ****. Only in Plano would the punishment for racing be a NEW truck instead of no vehicle...LOL.

About the track...hope you come out. Don't worry about not running at a track before. My first time was 6 weeks ago. I and others can get you into the swing of it. You'll love it once you start.

Practice makes perfect. I have been playing with the gaps on my plugs to see if the times improve. I am going to gap the IT22's at .040 and see if I at least get a higher trap speed.

Couldn't break them loose????? Oh man, that sucks!! Maybe he used a breaker bar to tighten them....guess he must of heard about the plug comming loose issue.

If you bought it from the dealer...take it back and tell them you want them to get the plugs loose. That way if it strips out threads...it's on them.

theres a long story behind the damn truck i bought. Even though i bought it unmodded chances are they will void my warranty anyways.

after terry looked at it he found lots of stuff missing. said it looked like it was someone raced it and might had a second computer with nos. motor has been out of it and probably blown it. car fax came clean so they probably did the work themselves. the motor runs strong though. oh well. even though whats said above its still my pride and joy till i die. I especially don't ever want to take it back to middlekauf where i bought it from. there any dealers anymore that yall use that don't care about chips and stuff?

I think he found the most used 02 out there:hammer: The trans, motor, blower, everything has been spliced, hardware wrong, removed etc! The plugs are impact gun tight, the dealer is the only one I would want to try it so they could take the liability.

The dealer doesn't matter much Ford sends third party inspectors out for any SVT/Performance warranty repairs over $200 bucks. We use to take stuff to Bankston, Lee Jarmon, Texan etc. Just pull the pulley and chip. You don't have the PCM cover for yours though..

grrr. :flaming:

terry. how did you get my stock pulley off so fast? thought you had to lock the fly wheel or something. i don't think i saw you do that..can't remember. you work too damn fast.

my main priority is the leaking head gasket. damn. I'm all freaking thumbs when it comes to mechanical stuff. have to get someone to help me. get the pulley and chip off.
