what is the % of drivetrain loss for L's??

I think 18% to 22% is pretty standard for most automatics but not sure if I've ever seen a posted number.


I know the GenI is right at 22%- 260HP to the crank and a whopping 202HP to the rear wheels.:rll: I'll have to remedy that some day:cool:

The Corvette 6 speed is 15% the automatic is 18%, ours is probably clsoer to 20%.

I realize that Greg Evans knows his stuff. BUT if that's the case, then can someone please explain to me how in the hell a 4 Speed Automatic Overdrive Transmission can pull LESS in terms of drivetrain losses than a 5 or 6 speed manual(which generally pull anywhere from 12-15%).

An Automatic tranny literally uses the engine to operate, whereas a manual tranny utilizes the clutch to tansfer the power from the motor to the drivetrain, thus causing much less in terms of drivetrain losses.

This is NOT meant to be a flame, I just do not see how any Automatic can cause less in terms of frictional losses than a manual. It just makes no sense at all. Opinions are opinions, and mine will continue to be that our trucks lose a MINIMUM of 15-18% through the drivetrain, especially, when you consider the size of our rear ends.(no pun intended)
