Whoa, nice shooting! http://www.talonclub.com/forum/images/smilies/eek2.gif Nothing but respect for this Texas Marine's shooting abilities and his service!http://www.talonclub.com/forum/images/smilies/bows.gif

Interesting to note the similarity of the last name with Gunnery Sgt. Carlos Hathcock (93 confirmed / 200+ unconfirmed) as I understand.

Not to thread-jack Gary, but I notice Sgt. Hancock pulled this off with a 7.62mm (.308) round vs. 5.56mm (.223) round. Who says the bigger calibers can't reach out and "touch" someone. http://www.talonclub.com/forum/images/smilies/biggrin.gif Hathcock's record was a ~2,500 meter kill with an M2 .50 caliber from a hill-top in VietNam. http://www.talonclub.com/forum/images/smilies/eek.gif

Hathcock was often quoted as saying, "The most deadly thing on the battlefield is one well-aimed shot".

Don't look now, but the picture shows the sniper with an M24 which is a 7.62X54 or what we cal a .308. The typical sniper team consists of two one with an M24 and the other with an M25 which is an accurized M14. Both rifles shoot the M852 ball which is the 168gr Sierra boattail Match.:D

Although the M16 is being used now at 1000 yards, the barrels are a different twist which will not stabilize the ss109 bullet. The bullets that are used at 1000 yds cost approximately $46.00 for a box of 100 and then they have to be loaded.:eek2:

One correction Milton. The .308 Winchester, or 7.62 NATO, is, I believe, a 7.62x51. I think you got it confused with the 7.92x54.

A quick bit of off-hand info:

5.56 x 45 mm (.223 Rem. / AR-15)
7.62 x 39mm (AK-47 / MAK-90)
7.62 x 51mm (.308 Win.)
7.62 x 54mm (Russian Dragunov)
7.62 x 63mm (.30-06 Spg.)
12.7 x 99 mm (.50 BMG)

Sorta' off-topic, my college-friend/groomsman/medic Dustin is being shipped out to support Operation Iraqi Freedom next month and shoots Expert with the M16. He was the big-guy in the orange sweatshirt with me at Hallsville recently. He said he enjoyed the 120 blast in the L on the way there! http://www.talonclub.com/forum/images/smilies/thumbsup.gif

BTW, you still aren't getting my Mk VII Desert Eagle .44 Mag, Unsane! http://www.talonclub.com/forum/images/smilies/bash.gif http://www.talonclub.com/forum/images/smilies/biggrinflip.gif. I even have the framed/signed cert. from Magnum Research Exec. VP hanging here in the office dated July 6, 1994. Bought brand-new - I'm the only owner. http://www.talonclub.com/forum/images/smilies/nana.gifhttp://www.talonclub.com/forum/images/smilies/biggrinflip.gif One of the last made in Israel from what I can tell.
