Thanks again fellers. The cage is set up for the week before FFW Jersey. I am going to get JDM to handle it. I checked with several folks about cages and ran into a couple issues. One is the fact that I want the side bars removable. Everytime I asked about this, I would get the stupid look that I have seen techs get when approaching new technology for the first time;) . Two......most of the folks around this area have ZERO experience on cages for L's, so OJT would be on my fricking nickle.

You guys would not believe the melt down that run caused on Sunday morning in the staging lanes.....I will be running 11.7x's in Houston. For me to run another sub 11.5 run, would be taken as a slap in the face by all the wrong people.

Ennis was a fluke. I found out that my floormat was stuck under the throttle and I could not fully accelerate. And I found out that....that.....well I can't think of anything else to make up..

Please do the OJT in this area as I am below 11.5 on a stock block, I think. What pulleys are you going to run, I am thinking 9" lower with a 3.25" upper should be about 11.5.

That simply amazes me, that people who do this for a living can't get past the fact that someone wants something a bit *different* than what is the norm.

So how is JDM going to do the removable side bars? Got links? Pics?

WTF?? What kind of meltdown? And WHY??? Okay, so you're not supposed to be going faster than 11.x, big deal, it's not like someone just released a virus across the crowd. And how in the HELL would thta be taken as a slap in the face??

I had to work my memory pretty hard on that one. If I am not mistaken, I believe that is what they call a 6lb lower. With that combo, I was running the 11.33-11.47 range. I had to move my upper to a 3.5 to end up right at 11.51. I then allowed my truck to sit and heat in the staging lanes and ran a really smooth 11.7x to loose in the first round for the first time in 5 races.

Now last year I was running my 4lb lower and using the 2.50-3.25 range uppers. Only problem last year, was I had to keep it above 12.00, so I didn't really get alot of chances to see what combo hit 11.5x's.

I always seem to run quicker at the Houston track, so you may be surprised with a sub 11.5x run...:D

Thanks, less than 11.6 would be a PB so that would be okay.:)

Let's put it this way. In NHRA if you run quicker than your safety equipment allows in a qualifying pass, your gone until you get the proper equipment for the time you ran. FFW likes to mimmick the NHRA rules. Jim D. would not allow them to Fock me...and oh how they tried. He had my back like I never would have expected. 15-20 minutes of heated debates...that I really won't get into details about...and a few threats...I was allowed to put 11.50 on my window and run the first round. This allowed me to keep my points...which I would have lost if they forced me to put 10.86 on my window.

To be fair....the rules are there for everyones safety. I know them and so does everybody else. I ran somewhere near 30 passes over 3 days below 11.50 before i ran the 10.96. They where patient and I took advantage. I was wrong and I am well aware of it. So now I will make it right by not running anymore illegal passes with FFW. They would have been right in every way to toss me the heck out of that track.

Now the d!ck who started the trouble, by making an issue of it to the FFW officials, is on my very short ass kicking list. Actually he is alone on it. He is a little trouble maker who is not even running for points, but just likes to stir up sh!t. He pretty much stayed in his truck while I was standing in the lanes....:evil .

Rocks,
I think I get the picture (pun intended) but these are pics from at least two different trucks. The one set shows no belts or cuts in the seats.
Anyhoo.. so are you buying a separate set of seats that have been cut for the belts? Also, I am guessing that your days of driving the truck on the street are over, or have they been over for some time?
It does look like a nice setup if they dont fork up your carpet and stuff too, or does that really matter at this point?
Be Safe.

Your a quick one there Dana.... .

The pics are only meant to show the cage install. IGNORE THE DAMNED TRUCKS!

My Lightning is still streetable and will be that way for awhile. The point of the removable side bars is to take them out when not at the track.

We can have the conversation again next year when it runs nines and has wheelie bars and a parachute....:d .

I can tell you that getting in and out of a caged-L (without the removable side supports) is a b!tch!:hammer: You can only put on your helmet once you get inside and take it off to get out.

Rocks,

Do you now or plan on running with your side windows up-or-down? I understand you should run with them down in case you crash/burn, all the glass is inside the doors so you can twist the Simpson 5-pt. harness and get out - minus all the glass shards with which to contend.

Plan on running any on-board fire-retardant system - both in the engine compartment and in the cab?

Be careful!

Rocks,
did you ever check with Wolfe on building you a cage? He did mine(6 point) for my Stang with swing out/removable door bars. I was only out a grand.Of course I didn't have to go thur the back window.

Thanks Terry....yep...it launches hard enough that it is causing my old neck to hurt. I bought a simpson neck support today....hope it helps. I can barely turn my head without turning my shoulders at the same time.

We will show them Dodge boys Adam.... .

Derick....getting a cage for a Lightning is considered a custom afair. The stangs have kits...set up and ready to go. There are only a few places around that have done cages for the L's. Until more guys get cages done, it is going to be a first time afair for most companies...and they always charge extra for their lack of experience. I didn't want to pay someone to learn on my L.

Besides....I am more interested in quality than a cheap job.

Are you adding in the 5 pt Simpson restraints too? if so, I guess you are going to cut your seats or replace them with different seats or buy some seats that are already cut? just curious..
