I put 2 Nitto Extreme tires on the back of my L about a month ago.I am not impressed with them.I have had the rear end come around almost out of control several times from a 40-50mph roll.Next time i will pay the extra cash and get the goodyears.They do look good though.I might move them to the front.I still got 2 goodyears left.Anyone debating :hammer: tires the goodyears are deff. better.:tu:

Be cool like everyone else and run the DR's in the back and 555's in the front:cool: .

on older slick roads i have that problem but not on major roads.

My Nittos hook better than the Goodyears ever did. Regardless of the type of tires on the street the Lightning will break 'em loose, tho. Get a little water under them and forget it...gotta be real careful to not lose it. I just think you have a lead foot Beau...:tu: :D . Be careful out there.

i have the drag radials and i love them, dont get a lot of miles out of them but traction is no issue with them

Thats what i got on there.Might be cause it was cold tonight.Goodyears seem to grab a bit better.

Are you sure you got 305/45/18 drag radials on the back? I have seen Rob run faster on those DR's than his slicks at Ennis. They are essentially a grooved slick, it doesn't get any better than that diddly.. Click the pic cheddar head

True.. rubber will be harder and not as sticky when its warm.

Are you sure you got 305/45/18 drag radials on the back? I have seen Rob run faster on those DR's than his slicks at Ennis. They are essentially a grooved slick, it doesn't get any better than that diddly.. Click the pic cheddar headI think they are 295's.Not sure if they say DR.Is any one running 305's in the front to?Ill have to look at them again and see whats on there.I know they are 555's. I think i have these http://nittotire.com/tires_555.asp Probally bought the wrong ones.Try the DR's next set .Thanks!! The 305's too!Should have asked u before i bought em dang it.

you probly have the regular nitto 555s not the 555drs.

the goodyear tire is a better tire for handling IMO. but the nittos hook up way better. When i had the goodyears i could lay in the gas and it would spin forever. Nittos it barks and goes. This is on the street no the track.

A have Nitto DRs on my Mustang. I've had them for about a year and for the first 8 months I thought that they were great! Then suddenly one day they wouldn't stay on the road at all. I can't even drive 50mph in the rain at a consistant speed without the rear swinging all over the place. They are great tires......until they start to wear out, then replace them quick or don't drive in the rain.

the 555r2 are autocross tires. They have stiffer sidewalls. Not good for drag racing.

True that! Mine are getting bald and dangerous, im not buying anymore DR's I love em but I cant afford to replace them 3 times a year. Thats why I got slicks, so I can go back to a 555 in the rear for better life.

I have noticed a decrease in overall traction with the 555s, but one thing that is a LOT different with the Nittos is their sensitivity to tire pressure. I do a good bit of towing with my truck (just got back from a 3-day trip to the Ozarks with both of my motorcycles) and run the pressures up for towing, depending on how much weight is on the truck. If I don't bring them back down to normal pressure afterwards, they are way squirrely. Factor in the cooler weather's effect on power (more) and traction in general (less), and you will have a traction problem. Check your tire's wear accross the face of the tread. If whatever tires you are running consistently wear more in the center than the outsides, you are running too much tire pressure. Granted, it's hard to tell without several thousand miles on the Nittos because they don't wear as fast as the F-1s, but I think on top of everything else, you might be running your pressures a bit too high.
