It is based on a Mossberg Maverick for the local gun experts:rolleyes: . It is considered a AOW (Any Other Weapon) and is transferred via a $5 tax stamp. Serbu does excellent custom work in very limited quantities down in Florida. This is not a Saturday garage made weapon.

That is just one of the numerous classifications of firearms, weapons, destructive devices, etc that the BATF uses.:rolleyes:

Don't forget the "E". Apparently, A, T, and F weren't exciting enough so they had to add explosives and make it the BATFE. :rolleyes:

All kidding aside, I was wondering about the muzzle velocity of a shotgun with a 6 inch barrel. The reason for the 18 inch barrel restriction is that is where 98% of the muzzle velocity is developed --- between 18 and 20 inches. I know with a rifle one can expect to lose between 80 and 120 feet per second per inch for barrels between 18 and 24 inches ---

So if you go from 18 inches to 8 inches in a shotgun, with a nominal muzzle velocity of 1400 fps for 18 inches of barrel, that would put the shorty shotgun in between .38 and .45 velocity
