Hey guys....time has come again for us to start thinking about being part of the Big Texas Toy Run. I have contacted the coordinators of the run to make sure they are OK with us being part of the run. The last two years we've had a blast bringing up the tail end and clogging up traffic for the bikers. Plus we got to see some of the baddest bikes around. Not to mention last year some of us hauled toys in the back of our trucks and got the opportunity to take it up to about 110 on I-30 in front of the police!! All info can be found at the website above. The convoy leaves from the West End in Dallas and ends up at the Arlington Convention Center. Admission to participate is $10 or a $10 toy.

Whos in?

Just got a few e-mails from the coordinators. We're good to go. I will be out of town that weekend, but there is still a need for someone to be point man on this one. Anyone game? There is a planning meeting on the 17th that I'll need someone to go to to represent us.

Sounds cool. I may take you up on that as a door prize or something. I'll be in touch.

I won't be able to go this year. I have other commitments out of town, but I had a blast last year. I've never seen so many bikes in one place.

Here are some more pics from last year.

Nobody is going to step up? We need someone to go to this meeting and take care of things. Someone needs to step up...the club wants to do things, yet no one wants to take the lead on anything. Guys, someone take the lead here...it won't take too much effort. And keep in mind we are doing this for the kids. Plus we provide some protection for the bikers as well. We've been doing this for the last few years and I don't want this year to be any different...

Basically, the trucks pull out before the bikes leave. We wait on Industrial (in a parking lot) for 15-20 minutes until all the bikes pass by and then we pull out and block all lanes of traffic on I-30 to seal the freeway off from your normal freeway idiots. I will attend the meeting on the 17th and post times to gather in the West End lot by the train station. The Corvette club usually goes immediately behind the bikes and we bring up the rear. We need a minimum of 4 trucks, but more is better.

It is really a lot of fun. It is absolutely amazing seeing all of those bikes in the parking lot. On average they have about 40,000 bikes in attendance, and that is made up of the two convoys...one from Dallas and the other from Fort Worth. They can't tell us to do this, but we basically clog up the highway from Industrial to the Arlington Convention Center to isolate the bikers. There are police escorts through each city whose job we make easier, and they seem to be acceptable to us clogging up the highway.

To be a past of the run, I believe you need to donate $10 or an equivalent toy at the Convention Center. There is a place in the West End where you can pay if you'd like to get that out of the way. Also, I have always volunteered our trucks to carry toys if they needed, and they used a couple of our trucks last year.

Dennis, you might want to be sure and ask about the signs to indicate us as part of the run and also find out what kind of accommodations they will have for us if we do load up with toys. It would really suck to have to try to carry a bedload full of toys to the Convention Center from the parking lot!

Anyway, I'll do what I can to keep everyone informed before I head out of town. Thank you again, Dennis, for stepping up to take care of this. You'll really like the group that puts this thing on...they are a great bunch of people.

The rotator cuff surgery is done and I am starting to be able to use my right arm a bit. Still 5 more weeks with arm in a sling and limited mobility (no extentions). I started driving on Friday, and plan to make the Toy drive unless I have some kind of setback.

Some changes this year based on years past. Registration has been moved to the middle of the West End area (by Joe's Crab Shack). Also, four-wheelers, as we are called, will be parked on Houston Street facing north (red star). We will pull out about 15 minutes before the bikes and follow N. Lamar, left on Industrial until we get to the Red Coleman's Buck & Ruck liquor store. We will pull off and wait in that parking lot until the bikes go by and then fall in behind the Corvette Club. I am paying the $10 up front instead of the toy thing so I don't have to make the trek to the convention center. We may be called on to haul toys that are left at registration, but we'll play that by ear. Be there or be square.

Had 8 guys show up. The Dallas Police weren't even available to shut off I-30 ramps or protect the back of the pack on the trip to Arlington. The Harley truck club showed up this year and helped block off I-30 in back of the Corvette Club.

It definately was a fun time, I think their was a good amount of lightning rubber left under a couple of underpasses on the way to the convention center. Well I made it the past 2 years and I can't say that I regreted going eather time. Looking forward to next year's hopefully we'll have a better turn out from the talon club.
