my kids (all in their 20s) keep telling me how great john mayer is but he's never done ANYTHING for me.........except now. i'm a big fan of the late, great, stevie ray vaughan and nobody will take his place, but john mayer's new effort really impresses me. the john mayer trio and their "TRY" cd is a giant step in the right direction. he needs to do a TON more of this stuff...BLUES!! give it a listen. you people who are already mayer fans might be convinced to give some other blues arteests a listen after hearing his latest.

I was and still am a John Mayer fan. I have his last two CDs, but not this newest one. Definitely have to snag it with what you say.

I'm also a huge SRV fan, as my pops raised me on him. Got to see him twice while he was alive, once on the Soul to Soul tour (Will Rogers) and again on the Live Alive tour (Fair Park). Kids used to make fun of me for wearing my sweet Soul to Soul t-shirt back in 7th grade - they just didn't know.

I've got a huge SRV collection....there will never be another. I'd know that Mayer cited him as an influence, so I'll be looking forward to checking out that CD.

How could you not like SRV? Even my wife like SRV. John Mayer is ok.

"Pride and Joy" by SRV was one of my favorite tracks by him.

That one track entitled "Caught in the Crossfire" was very-good, too.

Anyone have any streaming urls to sample the various genres/goods?

Many thanks,

Ronald, Elaine and Baby-Brown.:)

you're a very lucky guy, i never got to see him in person but i have all his legal releases and some bootlegs, have an autographed "texas flood" album, several t-shirts, and i get talk to his mom now and then (very nice lady, she lives in the area).

Yep, I am definitely very lucky in that regards and I have my father to thank for that. That and my taste in music. I've also got to see Jimmy Vaughan a time or two as well as Doyle Bramhall, and I've met Tommy and Chris.

Back when I lived in Colorado, I used to follow a band called Breedlove that was out of Austin. The guitar player was Stevie's son. Tyrone...I want to say?? Don't have the CD on-hand and having a brain fart. Stevie was his father, but did not raise him. Band was really good....they've been broken up for quite some time and I never have heard anything more from him.

I have it on standing orders that Riviera Paradise is to be played at my funeral. I have a lot of respect for the way he changed his life around at the end. It's a true shame that we lost him, as his music was only becoming more incredible with his sobriety.
