It does suck. I used to stock for a grocery store and did it early mornings. A couple of times I had to cover for someone on nights and it really wiped me out. The perk is that you can wear headphones.

I did like stocking though. I usually stocked cokes and water. I would do it as fast as I could for exercise. I was in pretty good shape after about 6 months of it. :D

Ack...

It'll come around for ya man. I think it's just a bad time of year to be looking. January is just around the corner, but good luck between now an then anyway.

I worked nights for 8 years (9pm-5am Sun-Thurs). I would rather work the graveyard shift than a 2nd shift anyday.

Here ya man I've been working nights for 5 years now! 14 hour graveyard shifts isn't the best for a new family!!! Work all night and sleep all day :flaming:

I have been workin graves for 5 years.10:30-6:30.I make 65c. more an hour and get paid lunch but it takes its toll. Its hard on your marrige, your body, your kids and sleep habbits. Its a fact that life time nightshift people dont live as long as a day worker.I work in a union shop and have to bid on days off, shifts, vacation etc..Unless we start hiring soon i will be on graves for a few years to come.It also looks funny drinkin beer @ 7:00am in the morning.Only good sides are its cooler,no management and more cookouts!!

Yea its not the best job in the world but its fun. Its taking some time getting used to sleeping during the day.

i actualy dont realy want to be a tech at a dealership anymore.. I just got burned out of it and didnt want to do my side business anymore... I wouldnt mind be a parts guy or service writer.

I had a interview at the Texas Department of Transportation i should know if i get that gig here soon. Hopefully I do and ill just stick it out with them and then beable to retire when im in my late 40s early 50s.

Mike,

I feel your pain! I've worked Pets/Lawn-and-Garden stocking/etc. at W-Mart SuperCenters in college. Retail's no fun.

One of the worst night-jobs I've worked was a 6pm-6am IT job. Talk about screwing up your sleep schedule! It turned my world upside-down. I couldn't eat/sleep and started losing weight.:o

I started interviewing for an outside IT gig and was up 36 hours straight once working by night and interviewing by day.:crying: As a kid, I've seen Dad fall asleep at the dinner-table plenty of times while working the rotating day/night-shifts.

FWIW, I understand Corporate America uses this rotating shift staffing-model to make it intentionally harder for workers to maintain swing-shift schedules and almost "force" them to retire early - while paying less medical/dental/401k/and other benefits in the long-run.

I understand some countries have used sleep deprivation as a form of torture.

Good luck with your job-hunt and be careful driving home. :tu:

What about college? Are you planning on attending? It could help in the long run. Now is the perfect time (while you are still living at home).

I know that it isn't the most exciting job, but how about working at the post office? They pay darn well. Only thing is you've got to have a clean criminal record.

Thanks..... ive been trying to get on with txdot for a few years now. Its hard to get on. You have to know somebody or be a top guy somewhere to get on it seems. Took my mom 3 times to apply for a HR position before she finaly got it and she was doing the same job for Texas Department Of health.
