Well I just wanted to let you guys know that I'm one lucky SOB and landed myself some tickets for the big game. As tempting as it has been to sell them for over 1k a piece, I've decided to go. We aren't really sure what we're going to do yet, but driving most likely and stopping in Vegas (possibly for new years), and off to the game Jan 4th! I'll take my brothers camera for some good pics/video. I'm actually thinkin of takin ol Jenna halfway across the country knana Gas will probably rape me, but hey I'm not buying (I'm selling my buddy the ticket at face value, he can pay for the gas ;) )

 I was going to say the same thing.

Either way, it should be an awesome experience.

The Banzai-Run from DFW/Amarillo/ABQ/Winslow,AZ. is do-able. 968 miles in one day - hulluva' experience!:)

I'd suggest keep trucking through Kingman, AZ. on I-40 and take 15 down to LA. Be sure and check www.bestfares.com (http://www.talonclub.com/forum/www.bestfares.com) and www.orbitz.com (http://www.talonclub.com/forum/www.orbitz.com) if you haven't already.

Nothing beats getting to either coast faster than air-travel ASAP, though.:bows;)

Have fun!

Have a safe but great time.. make the road trip, its boring as heck, but you might have some fun along the way. Be careful in Vegas, its not exactly the most safe place in the world.. and just hope for really good game that makes the entire trip worthwhile, irrespective of who wins.

....I work a few miles from the Rose Bowl. It sucks. If you guys are big fellas you will find yourselves very uncomfortable. Enjoy the game and don't have more than a beer if you plan on driving. California is very strict on the drinking and driving....especially in that area on that day. Ronalds flying suggestion is a good one except that you simply can't get around southern CA without a car (so it would be airfare + rental). We have the worst public transportation system that I have ever seen. Is it going to be USC VS Texas? I don't really follow football. In any event, USC will crush whoever they're going to play. Our contracting director went to USC and I never hear the end of it....I so wanted UCLA to win! Anyway, goodluck, get there a couple of hours early.

Oh yeah, and watch out for the smog in that valley too....

Will do on the programs, unless you just want to buy them online? (I just had a link but can't find it again, just google 2006 rose bowl program) I think you can do that but otherwise I'll get you guys some. I'm not really sure on the driving yet, i'd rather fly so I could be there and back and not have to worry about all of it like Ronald said. Either way it'll be amazing, and i'll bring back a national championship ;)

and check that decision on selling ticket for face value, I think i'm gonna get him for 500-600, because I can...(if he doesn't like it i'll put it on ebay and have a hell of a trip myself with 1k bucks to spend lol)
Texas 37
USC 34
Yeah yeah call me a homer all you want, on paper, Texas is a much better team...(Better O/D/special teams).

Dru,

Also, add-up the total consumption of 93/mileage wear-tear-depreciation on Jenna versus airfare/taxi/etc. Not to mention all the idiot-drivers between the DFW and LAX area that might crash-into you and/or burglarize your L.

You might crunch-some-numbers and see which approach would be most advantageous.

Have fun either way!

Tom, if there is one thing I have found in getting to the age of 48, there is always a possibility, but maybe not a probability.. let me demonstrate to you.. The NY Jets over the Colts, NC State over UH Final Four, Villanova over Georgetown Final Four, just to name a few, but there have been many times where the better team lost. Thats why they play the game. No doubt that USC should be favored and if they lose, it will be a upset. USC has two Heisman trophy candidates, one of which won the trophy. But weird things can happen. If the team has a bad day, fumbles, interceptions, etc and Texas is able to capitalize, well it can happen.
But make mine a Shiner Bock, if TU (I am a UH grad) does win.:tu:

After I get out of jail from tearing the goal posts down, I will gladly take a beer! ;) USC -6.5 is the line and it's college football, anything can happen, in the NFL a lot less likely. The torture of waitin til january...

I made that drive the last three years going both routes. Rented a minivan. You could rent a car pretty cheap with unlimited miles, that would make up for the gas and the wear and tear. Ronal We went out there drove all over the place, from San Diego to San Fran, those three years never had anyone run into us. Those unlimited rentals are great. we put about 3400 miles last time, and they never said a word, Get a car that gets about 25 mpg, uses reqular gas, and you definitely save.
And to QDRHRSE, the publis transportation is better there, than here in Dallas!

oh crap Bush is on now - what a goofball!

I work right by the Rose Bowl. We went to Starbucks this morning and I saw some Texas fans. I wish you Texas fans the best of luck. I hate USC yet I still think that they will win head up. However, I also think that Texas can cover the spread- is it 7.5 points? It should be a good game. I'm leaving work @ 3:00 to avoid the traffic. I guess we'll talk later:beer: .

They certainly know better than me.
