Well after so many months of thinking, i finally did it yesterday.....I ENLISTED IN THE ARMY!:tu: I will probably deploy in about 2 months or so after I take the ASVAB and learn all the basics before I leave for basic training. I signed for 3 years including 9 weeks for basic training and my dental school in San Antonio which is 36 weeks! One thing that hurt me was that i told my mom and she went ape s**t! :flaming: I have never seen her this mad but then she told me that she is mostly worried and alittle mad! Well wish me luck and if there is anything that you guys would like to add then im all ears! :tu:
I really dont know any of you guys but i thought i would like to share since i know that this is a big step in my life! In the meantime while im here i would like start going to gatherings and get to know most of you so if there is meet or something......im in!
Thanks, Luis

Luis,
Big step and you definitely have more balls than I did way back when. :ron: I came close to going twice, and both times bailed. First time was to go into Warrant Officer flight training to fly Apaches after high school, but I realized that I didn't want Uncle Sam to own me. Second time I was offered a full ride for college if I joined ROTC and went into the Army as a 2nd Lt. upon graduation. I went through all of the tests and physicals and was denied the scholarship because of old football injuries. They said I could still enroll and I told them to stick it since I wasn't getting anything while I was in school. /:ron:
Best of luck to you and keep safe.:tu: It's a pretty screwed up world out there and you're the one that gets to go in and clean up the sh!t.

Thanks for wanting to serve. My dad was upset with me when I joined. Which I didn't understand since my dad is a retired General. Many years later when I wisened up and had kids of my own I figured out why he was the way he was......He didn't want his son going off to die in some far away country. He served 3 tours in Vietnam. I'm sure he had friends and troops under his command that did not come home. Your mom is concerned for your safety. That happens when you have kids. Good luck, Stay safe and keep your ass down.

Luis,
Thank-you for your service to our country - and other TALON members' contributions. God-Bless.:tu::bows
Don't feel too bad, I waited a week (temporarily in OH./IL. on work) before I told the parents (in OK.) I bought the L. :flaming:. They figured if it will do 140, I'll do it and meet my demise.
Mom/Dad didn't speak to me for over a week via cell. :evil Now, Dad's driven the L. to 80+ and Mom's asking to drive the L.:tu:
In what capacity are you serving, Luis? I understand you soldiers have WiFi even in Iraq.
Is this correct?

Good Luck Luis. Keep your head down if you end up in the sand. Your mom just loves you. I would just sh!t if one of my offspring joined up. I might even be tempted to tie them up so they couldn't go. Check that...I would kill them...they would never make it to basic training.
Our thoughts around here will be with you.

You might also search around on here for long-term storage info. for the L. You might also PM dboat on here.
Ronald
Sure, but I dont do any long term storage with mine.. just a few months is all. I get out there and start it every now and then.. let her warm up and shut it back down.. OH, I do have it hooked up to a battery tender to keep the battery going..

Ditto that....time flies...be sure to do something you can make a career of.....don't get sucked up in the bonuses etc for a crap job. Do something you like and something that you can build a future on.
God speed to you!:tu:

I plan on enlinsting after the first of the year. I'm fininshed with my EMT school now and am just waiting for the holidays to get over with. I am going to try for the Air Force but I will prolly go to the Army 'cause the Air Force is so damn picky. What is your MOS going to be? My cousin is currently stationed at Ft. Benning, he likes it alot.

If you happen to get stationed at ft hood im always down there visiting army buddies. IF you get sent over to Florida for some reason i have friends there as well.
Thanks for your courage to fight for our country. Ive thought about joining but one look at my knee they would probly just laugh or it wouldnt make it through basic.
Speedybolt. Go with airforce. Its a breeze and well from having friends in the army, marines, airforce they all will tell you the airforce is easier and they take better care of you. IF my friend got in you should have no problem

Count on it! The Drill Sergeants will treat you very kindly :evil
One of my most memorable moments :ron: was getting off the bus at boot camp and meeting my drill sergeant for the first time. He left a very lasting impression...

Yeah, nothing like the sound of 5-6 brown rounds greeting you as you get off the cattle truck fully loaded with all your gear. I took basic in 1981 in Ft Dix ,New Jersey when the drills were Vietnam vets and were really nasty. I hear they are pansies now compared to then with all this political correct ,I'm too scared to serve but I can stick my nose in it from my congressman office so the troops can be treated like girls crap. I served 7 years active & 3 1/2 Reserves and yes it was the best move I made also. Travel, friends, learning things you just don't learn anywhere else. A real brotherhood for life. Playing with Claymore mines :evil Good luck you'll be proud you served and you parents will also, trust me. :tu: Derrick Palmer, Sergeant, U.S. Army 1981-1992, Desert Storm Veteran.

At the risk of starting a "who's branch was better" argument let me say this. Having been in the AF, I'm a little partial but I spent lots of time with the Grunts and Jar Heads and I think the AF treats their people a lot better when it comes to housing, facilities and such. They have always spent a lot of money on their bases. Three of the four bases I was stationed at had brand new base housing and dorms for the junior enlisted. Just my .2
