well some of you guys know the problems with the wifes car. Man was that the biggest mistake of my life buying that piece. First mistake was buying it used and not brand new. Second was buying a BMW. bought car with around 30k miles and shortly after had transmission, radiator, window motors, idlers, power steering pumps, etc etc... u name it, its probably been replaced.
well on thursday we were driving out to dallas on i20 and i suddenly notice the temp gauge soar up to red and start glowing... i pull over on shoulder and doesnt have a DROP of antifreeze... a pulley broke and that caused belt to go out and belt runs the water pump... so i had to get it towed back to mansfield, and had belt, pulley, and some tensioner replaced... another $500 down the drain on this money pit...
so first thing monday morning i went to every car lot on cooper/i20 area trying to trade it in... we owed $17k on it and nobody would give me more than $12.5k for it... not even carmax... Had a hard time negotiating deals with guys since I was upside down $5k. I wanted a mid sized SUV that would fit in the garage along with the boat.. looked at Acura MDX, 4Runners, Explorers, Pathfinders, etc and ended up getting an 06 Honda Pilot. For one, they were running a special deal on it and my payments were going to be a little over $100/mo cheaper than all the other cars. I really wanted to find a deal on an explorer but wife didnt like them much for some reason unless it was a decked out EB edition... Iv never owned a Honda, so hopefully it will do us right... I did purchase the superduty ext warranty though and payments are only like $8/mo more than the BMW so was kinda a no brainer... but its not bad, has rear a/c, 3rd row seating, and tons of goodies...
if i can just change 1 persons life, id feel like so much of a better person... so take my advice.. DONT BUY BMW

I dont think that you can go wrong with Honda or Toyota. Probably the best two brands for car life and economy. The camry I have is still rollin at 220,000 miles.

glad you came out good on the deal. you may have been upside down but you probably saved money in the long run. you'll like having a honda. they're pretty trouble free and hold their value.

I hope you enjoy the pilot. My parents bought one two years ago and they love it. It's the best SUV out there for the price. What color did you get? My parents got one in midnight blue. They say it's one of the Rarest color's there is. I have only seen two other ones it there color in The area.

I couldn't disagree more!!! I have a 3 series BMW. After driving it for couple of years, I gave it to my wife. It was too expensive of a car to put 50k a year on. We still have it and after 90k it has never had a single problem. In fact, all around, it is the best car that I have ever owned. I know 4 other people with the same car, 2 with the same color even, and they all plan to buy another the next time around. The only issue that any of us has had is lightbulbs burning out, especially the turn signals. You must have bought the lemon of all lemons. Everything about the BMW is better. I was even impressed with the battery cables they put in them.
How was your BMW maintained? By the dealer or you? I'm curious. I maintain mine myself but by the dealer specs. Only synthetic fluids and BMW approved oil like Mobil1. It almost sounds like somebody put regular coolant and tranny fluid in your car. That could cause almost immediate problems. Ours still has the original plugs and tranny fluid. I'm about to take it in for its 100k first service.
I am also the not-so-proud driver of a Honda 4 door Civic EX. I commute through a 30 mile canyon twice a day and I can't keep brakes in the Honda for more than 10k. The BMW went through the first set at around 50K. I'm lucky that the first time I needed brakes in the Honda I went to Autozone and got lifetime pads and 2 year rotors. I just bought it in July and I'm about to put my second replacement set in. The pads don't wear out completely but the rotors get really warped. I'm also midway through my second set of tires at 30k....the BMW got tires when in got brakes.
