Very recently I sold some stuff on EGAY and the fella who bought the stuff said items were missing and parts were damaged but the box was sealed and appeared intact. I did insure the package. How does this work? We both filed a claim with UPS. Will UPS repackage or tape up boxes? I'm at a loss as to what could have happened. One of the items shipped was a mass air meter. The buyer said that plug had been damaged way beyond the point of repair. Wouldn't it take several hundred pounds to break a plastic MAF?

The buyer also filed a PayPal complaint, I don't blame him, and it's really a big ordeal. My EGAY feed back is 100% and I want ot keep it that way. Any advice?

^^^ what mark said.. dont take his word for it. Have him take pictures of damaged parts, of the box and the packing material...

When i ship stuff i tend to over pack it with newspaper and the little styrofoam deals if i have any. If not i uses a slightly larger box just so i can stuff extra newspaper.

Hell i sold a cat. convter from my old civic and used a big box, foam packing peanuts and rolled up newspaper lol.

A couple of :ron:'s related to UPS:

[:ron:]
First:
A friend of mine sent some meds to her husband in Missouri, boxed 'em up, shipped 'em off; couple days later, she gets a call from her hubby, says he gets the box and it's all torn up, and not a single med in it. The next day, she gets a call from a doctor's office, they tell her tht they got a package from a drug supplier, but instead of the drugs they were supposed to get, they get her husband's meds! And, of course, the box was a major mess, and all taped up (and badly).

Second:

I sent a Dish reciever back in its original packaging via UPS, but it never got to them because it showed back up on my doorstep, looking like it got run over by a truck. UPS disavows any knowledge of this to this day. :nono:

Third:
A guy I know works for UPS, and he says they have more conveyor crashes in a day than they care to admit; he also says that if he had to ship ANYTHING, he'd use FedEx, c'uz it's cheaper and more reliable. More damning advice, I've never seen.

Okay, Rocks, you can uncover your eyes now....

I sent a guy a set of gears a few years ago and the gears and the box were still in the packaging from when I got them and sent them out that way. Box showed up and they were all damaged and box was torn to hell and back. Took me about a month to get some money out of ups but I did. I got it from one of there insurace companys. They gave me a check for $225 bucks. Not enough for to replace them but a good chunck back. It is hard to get a claim go your way with them. Good Luck

It's OK this time, because I have one of my own. :ron: Couple years ago I purchased a Latte making machine from a company on Ebay. It arrived in a completely sealed box. I open it up and the machine looks like it has been run over by a truck. The box showed no damage, that I could see. I freaked out, thinking that I had just been screwed out of 800 bucks. I sent an email to the company on Ebay. They sent a phone number and asked me to call them. They had shipping insurance, so it was not going to be a problem. They asked me about package damage. I looked over the box again and noticed that the bottom had a different shade of tape on it. It looked like the machine may have fallen out of the box and UPS put it back in and re-taped it.:ron:

I bought some subframes connectors from a company online. When they were shipped to me the box looked fine, but the connecting parts, bolts, plates, and instructions were not there, only the rails. I called the company and they asked about the box. I told them that it appeared fine so they agreed to reship the entire order. Two days later I got a small package from UPS. It was the parts from the original box. Apparently the box was busted open and the parts fell out. They just retaped it and pretended that nothing was wrong. Lucky for me UPS found them later and finished up the delivery, but by then I had already contacted the shipper. I hate UPS!

Of course I have had similar experiences with FedEx, DHL, and Airborne Express. My preferred carrier is actually the Postal Service. I got screwed by them once, but they fired that mail carrier.

Good luck with Pay-Pal helping you out or UPS I sent out a radio once wrapped up as good as it gets, but the buyer got the box all tore up then the radio didn't work so called UPS they said the won't insure it have a nice day and hung up. And then the buyer sent out a complaint on me and pay-pal wouldn't even let me tell them the story and the permently closed my account and banned all the accounts I had on the pay-pal account from using them again with them!!!:evil

Think about the logistics of getting hundreds of thousands of packages a day in and out of hubs. These packages get handled several times and are thrown to and from trucks, conveyors, pallets...etc

I've toured the main UPS facility in Chicago and it is truely amazing the volume of stuff that is handled on a daily basis.

With that kind of volume stuff is going to get damaged.

Having a mail order buisness I deal with this kind of crap all the time. UPS only damages or loses about five packages out of the hundereds we ship a month. The problem is, when they do damage or lose a package, they never wan't to pay for it. Thier excuse is always improper packaging no matter how well it is packed. We always insure our shipments because of this kind of stuff.
USPS is not any better. We recently shiped a package to Mexico through them and it still hasn't gotton to the recipeant yet. We tried to track it and thier response was "Once it leaves the U.S. we have no way of tracking it." What a crock, we are seriously thinking about switching our shipping company to DHL. Not only beacuse of the crappy service you get with UPS but because they have consistantly raised prices to where it is damn expensive to get something to somebody now.

Good luck with this, your going to need it.

FYI on DHL, if you ship anything, make sure it's in a plain box, not original packaging. We ordered several Apple G5 laptops and lost 5 of them through the DHL facility in Dallas. It turns out one of the locals were taking them once they arrived. The stupidity of it was that they were already checked in at the facility and then they stole them. I'm sure some heads rolled for it, the FBI and local law enforcment got involved as well.

Thanks for the heads up. I'm not sure who we are going to start using yet, we are still looking at the options.

You must work for UPS--oh, wait, if you did work for them, you'd agree with us.

Fact is, UPS damages way more packages than USPS, FedEx, and other combined, mainly because they don't *want* to take care to prevent damage. If they slowed operations down by even just 5% (POA number), they'd reduce damage significantly. UPS is a hard-azzed company, and do not allow anyone to stop, take breaks, or slow down for any reason. Drivers have to keep driving 'til their trucks are empty; and the hub workers don't get much in the way of breaks, either. And UPS sends so much volume thru the hubs, without reasonable gaps between packages, that the conveyors crash often.

When the wife had her bookstore open, she had more books damaged by UPS than any other carrier. And she would rather send her stuff via FedEx or USPS, because if something did get damaged, they would at least work with her.

Last thing: UPS is one of the most expensive going. Case in point: I was thinking of getting someone's rotors in Indiana, shipped at my cost. FedEx wanted $75, UPS wanted $125, and UPS would've taken longer.

And you know what really sucks about UPS is they really don't care if they piss you off or not. They have so many customers that it wouldn't matter if our company changed delivery services and we easily spend 20k a year with them. This is the attitude we got from our regional sales rep and every time we call in for discrepancies on our bill or problems with oue shipments. They just don't care about the customer like they should.... That is why we are trying to find a new shipping agent. The problem is, they all have thier problems....
