I dont know if you guys still cruise nloc, but thought Id post these here anyway because there was some interest on some of the other pics I had posted. Truck is almost done, supposed to run next week.

Yeah I saw alll the crap about the welds, I can't weld that well, but mine are still effective too. Looks good to me.;)

Yes, the plenum may not be aesthetically pleasing, but its going to be very, very functional.

Its aluminum right ?
Tell them to go F off.. After doing ten+ years of weld inspections I learned me a little about welding ( dont know how, but I know what it takes to make a decent weld ) and welding aluminum aint easy - not by a long shot ... The welds look fine - and if they dont thats what the grinders for....

Yeah, its 6061 aluminum and its thick as hell. Pesonally I thought the guy did a great job. I was looking at one of the company trucks that has a liftgate on it, and the welds look almost identical to those on the plenum. I wonder how many other people thought everyone that was mouthing needed to shut up. I personally dont care if it looks like a giant buttcrack up there as long as its functional

6061 is a weldable aluminum,but when you get into thick stuff a temp stick and PREHEAT is needed.Never grind the welds unless absol. pos. needed.:tu:If you have to bevel the joint before welding.Cleanliness is the most important part of welding alum. and preheat.Use only a stainless steel brush that has never tasted anything but aluminum,and the preheat sticks are like crayons that melt @ the desired temp.Also let the POST argon flow for @ least 10 sec. before removing the torch from a completed weld.If you aren't @ the right temp its like melting wire on cold aluminum.

I was asked to take down the pics of the plenum becuase they decided to redesign it

only reason you dont want to grind a weld is because it makes it weak. On a intake plenum i see no harm in grinding it down a tad to make it pretty
