A lot of these guys will tell you Valentine 1, but I've been real happy with my Escort 8500 X50. It doesnt tell you the direction the radar is coming from, but will warn yu of up to 6 (or 8) signals at one time, and what kind each one. I know it helled once when it was showing 2 X, 2 K, and then a Ka showed up. the Ka was the cop, as the guy who didn't slow down behind me found out. and for style points yu can get a red or Blue display. Blue costs a little more.

I've had my Valentine 1 for two years and it has worked flawlessly. THe directional arrows are a major plus.

Both the V1 and the Passport work great. I love my V1. It all depends on if you think the directional arrows are worth the extra $100 on the V1. Personally, I think they are worth every penny. Go to both sites and check them out.

I sold my Passport 8500 and bought a Valentine last year. They both work well. I really like the directional arrows on the Valentine, but it seems to false signal slightly more than the passport did. The suction cups on my Passport worked better than the ones on the valentine if you move it from vehicle to vehicle. I also prefered the Passport's mute button on the cigarette lighter connection to the mute button on the Valentine.
You really can't go wrong w/either one IMHO. Like someone else said, it boils down to whether or not the directional arrows are worth the extra $$ to you

throw the suction cups out take the visor clip - put it on backwards and slid the v1 into the headliner next to the console...

Actually, all Valentines report all contacts initially, and are programmed that way. If you're set to full-logic mode, tho, what it considers a "false" (read: door opener or motion sensor), it'll mute it off. :tu:

V1 all the way, Beau... they flat rule.

they're cheap, just go to the website and get some more.. I have separate setups for the Acura and the truck.. guess I will need to get some for the Suzuki eventually:rolleyes:

I use the suction cups.. one trick is to use window cleaner to wet them.. the alcohol dries better and creates better suction..

I interviewed and spent some time with Mike Valentine in the 80s and could have worked for him at 2x my TI pay at that time...but the river was on fire in Cincinnati(nasty place) when I visited Escort (before he left).

I had just met the SO, she talked me out of it, I can't imagine how a long legged red headed woman would influence my decision.;)

Now I build DLPs instead of radar detectors.:D

V1 all the way.

Just go with V1's with the latest POP protection, Beau. :) I'm a believer.

Mark #2, I've got a Zip-Loc looking pkg. of suction cups straight from Mike V. You're welcome to one of them.

Elaine ordered extras for me.

I haven't had problems with my suction cups, and I'm using the same ones my detector came with back in 2001. :eek2: They sometimes pull loose, when I remove the detector and the suction cups together, but they stick fine for the most part after cleaning the glass well. ANd while in Louisiana, I left the entire thing up there, and they never came loose.

I agree, I have had mine since shortly after getting my L about 4 yrs ago..no problems at all. once in a great while, they will come loose, but its fixed in a jiffy..
I do like Dougs solution too though..

I tried that, early on, and didn't like the way I had to set the visor to get it to work properly, not to mention it eliminates the use of the visor for anything else. :( Of course, after actually reading his post, I might actually try that, tho I hav a concern for the V1 looking thru the tinted portion of the windshield.

all vehicles hard wired for V-1 and we own two I can not count the number of times it has saved me

Lidar in the L for that added level of protection

I've been looking at this one as well. In some of the reviews, this one is rated higher than the V1.

I read several reviews as well and it seems there are always 3 detectors at the top 3 spots depending on the reviewers personal preferences. The V1, Beltronics RX65 and the Escort 8500 x50. I like the v1 but I also like the new bel rx65.I don't think you will go wrong with any of the top 3. I got a great internet deal on the rx65 so I couldn't pass it up. It saved my butt again today btw....

Mike Valentine is the god of radar detection, everyone has been chasing him since 1976 when he and his dad founded Cincinnati Microwave.

He offered me double my salary at lunch many years ago, but the river was on fire at the time and I liked water skiing.
Cincinnati was just too polluted for me.

V1 here.

Its amazing that other than the size changes they havent made many changes to the V1 since 2000
I plug in my SN and Mikes website tells me that its really not worth it to upgrade my 7 year old detector
says something about his ethics ? integrity ? Morals ? I dont know which

Look, $100 bills attached to your DL when you hand it over don't count as "Jedi mind tricks"...
