View Full Version : When injectors stick!

If you ever wanted to know how much fuel a 60# injector could flow this video will answer your question. Short story is: I built an engine for a customer installed and delivered. About a month later the customer goes out and buys and installs his own 60# injectors and SCT MAF without correct tuning. Customer calls in saying engine is smoking, dying, and not running correctly stating it is only 3 months old and cost so much etc... After looking the truck over I found a stuck injector that is flowing at least a gallon a minute into the #5 cylinder. So much fuel it is hydro locking on fuel hopefully not enough to bend a rod or break a piston. There was at least a gallon of fuel in the oil pan. There was so much gas in the intake and oil that the engine would run and rev with the injectors and fuel pump fuse UNPLUGED! It was running off the crank case and intake vapors and fuel for as long as I let it!. I drained the oil/fuel from the engine and it ran for 5-6 seconds before finally running out of alternate sources. Now it is running on the injectors but there are still a few more I want to test out for leaking. This video is with the spark plug out showing how much fuel is loading in the cylinder. I was amazed. This is why you want to buy all your parts and work from the same person. I doubt the guy that sold the injectors and MAF would offer to pay for a new built motor replacement. I obviously cannot cover another persons parts or workmanship either. I will be amazed if this engine pulls through this unharmed. Fingers crossed.

Another case for a proper tune :hammer:

This particular issue is not tune related it is a simple faulty injector. But in general I like to dyno tune certain combos with larger variables. In this case not only is it a ported blower with 60# injectors but it is also a SCT MAF element in a C&L or Mac 95mm tube so there is no value file for that MAF config to start with. One too many critical component changes for a desktop tune. Hopefully the engine will come back to life and we can proceed with tuning.
I have the injector on my cart you can blow through it like a whistle.

I don't see how anyone can expect you to warranty a built motor once they decide to strike out on their own with mods for it.

I can tell you this for certain...JDM and JLP will tell you to go fock yourself if you think they are suppose to warranty a built motor in these circumstances.

This is the single reason I always run any changes you and I do to my truck through Jim. I don't want him to disown that motor I bought from him.

It takes a pair of big arse balls to ask a man to warranty a built motor after you go out and start making changes on it through someone else.
