As I've posted before, my wife and I are having a baby. I have a lot of toys and we agreed to sell the one that cost the most and was used the least. So my 5.0 went up for sale. It's a very wicked blown 5.0 that I love with all my heart but I haven't driven it in 4 or 5 months. It's also way faster than my L and possibly as fast as some of the top dog L's in Talon (I don't know if slick to slick I could take THOGG or ROCKS...but I could drive to Texas and race and come home) and its a true driver. Anyway, I sold it. The guy never even came to see it. He paypal'd me a deposit and is coming to pick it up tomorrow. You're probably wondering what I'm whining about....right?

Wednesday, my old boss calls me up out of the blue and asks me if I want to come work for her. To save you the details, my signing bonus is way more than I sold my car for and I'll be making way more money, plus I get another 10k over the summer as a performance bonus if it works out. F********ck!!!!

Anyway, I call the guy I sold it to and offered him $1000 to walk away. He won't do it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Since my good word is all I have I will not screw him.....but I should. Can you guys believe my luck? I'm buying another toy. My QDRHRSE has been on a Mustang since the early 90's. I was going to hang it on the L as a tribute....but not anymore. Anybody have any good experiences with the later model mustangs? I'm thinking about a 99 & up....possibly an 99 or 01 Cobra. What do you guys think?

Guh. I wouldnt touch a 99 or 01 cobra with a ten foot pole. Why dont you just light a stack of 100's on fire instead?

If you love your car that much, I'd keep it. Your circumstances are perfectly understandable. You arent been fickle about selling it, you just have an excellent oppourtunity to do so.

I can't keep it. I took a deposit on it in good faith. Other than the lack of power, why are 99 / 01 Cobra's bad? I guess I could handle a 97-98. Explain. I'm really curious.

Tom,

I applaud the fact that you are stepping up and being a man of your word on this:tu: :tu: :tu: ... too many would cut and run.. :nono: :Bullshit
However, you can look at this as an opportunity to build another and make any changes that you wish you would have done the last time but didnt. A chance to make it even better.. If it was me, I would look hard at the new Shelby Cobra though.. yep, lots of cash, but what a place to start.

Its been a while since I kept up with Cobras, but for 1999 it was found that the car couldnt even make the advertised HP numbers. Ford had to do some trickery with the exhaust if I remember correctly to bring the number up, but that may or may not have been a good fix.

I think I remember rumors of the 01 having similar issues...

And then of course there is the IRS, which by most accounts is crap.

I suppose if you could find a good enough deal on one it might be worth it...

It was the '99s, they had to recall them to replace the intake and exhaust manifold, and retune the ECU to get the advertised number, and that was the last year any ford went out with advertised numbers equal to or less than actual output--it's easier to underrate your output than to have to fix it if it comes in under. The whole deal cost them so much they had to suspend production of the '00 cobras, and then go ahead with the '01s.

The problems with the IRS are well-documented, but repairable if you're willing to ditch the stock arms and bushings for aftermarket units. But, then again, a nice IRS can't help that crappy strut front suspenson. :(

I would like to get 6500 so I'm asking for more and giving myself some room to come down.

No offense, but dont come down on him too hard just because he was the first to point it out. I'm sure you will get what you want out of it, but at that price you may have to wait a bit longer than others.

I would have a hard time paying that much for a car that wont pass inspection. Just my two cents. And he is in California, which is worse!

I think you may be on the wrong site to be asking about Mustangs, especially since only a hand full of us on here has ever owned them.Other opinions don't count when it comes to you and what you want. Oh, who am I? I been driving, modifying, racing, showing,in a club, going to events, participating in Fun Ford weekend with Mustangs or some part of it since 1989 when I had a new GT until 1997. I currenty own a '95 SC GT,its in my avatar. I'm on my 6th engine. The last was a 331 stroker making 622hp.I leaned out 2 cylinders using Lightning injectors that was too small. I have owned it since '97 and it has been in 5.0 Mustang & Muscle Stangs & Fast Fords. Low -mid 10's capable but I wanted to keep it street car with A/C and all creature comforts. I made him sign a document that stated that the car was for off road use only and I also made the bill of sale out for the full amount which will cost him $600 more in taxes than he wanted to pay. The tax thing was my last resort. It was a d*ckhead thing to do but not really wrong. That for sure would have been a deal breaker for me. He wanted it- he got it. My word is my word.

Derrick,

I hear what you are saying. I am on some Mustang boards too. Unfortunately there is a different class of car owner on the Mustang boards and thought that Talon would be a good place to ask some folks who could actually afford to keep the slightly higher end toys. Most of the "Stangnet" types daily drive their tired old 5.0's....I was just looking for a perspective more like my own. My 68 Mustang California Special & me were on the cover of the March 1993 issue of HotRod....I've got a couple other credits but that one is the best by far. I know some stuff....just not about L's!

Maybe I'm more paranoid than the average guy, but my first thought on buying it back would be that he may have already caused some kind of damage to the motor and is coming up with the too fast story as a smoke screen.

I suppose it doesn't matter since you aren't buying it back anyway, but the thought did cross my mind.

Rocks,

I agree. At times I have found you to be a little more paranoid than the average guy. It's part of you and I think it's great.

I doubt its damaged but it is entirely possible that it is. I'm not buying it back unless its for less than I sold it for, and even then, I can't justify it to my wife. I have a lot of toys as it is. Don't get me wrong though. If I wanted it bad enough I'd buy it. At this point it's not worth the trouble or the headache with the wife. It's funny though. I offered him money not to buy it. Now he has to register it and he's spent at least a $1500 on it so far. It just goes to show that toys are always a losing proposition.

I do'nt think that's entirely correct. "QFT" is just meant to reinforce what the previous poster said. If one wants to make sure someone can't go back and change anything, one typically just quotes it, and to make emphasis will type somethign along the lines of "No Ninja for j00", meaning "now you can't go back and edit this you fool." :tu:

Can't focking sleep. Too much work sh!t going through my head. I made the mistake of looking over some budget projections. This caused me to follow that slick move up with going over our marketing objectives. Then of coarse I have to start researching the demographics of the areas we are wanting to expand to. I know not to start with this sh!t at night...but I had the reports laying on the table and ...well...it just snowballed on me.

Now I have to find someone to flame so I can get work out of my head. You and http://www.svtgalleries.net/gallery/data/500/ronald.gif where all that was available at the time.

Hmm, superhi-jack move..
Me too Rocks, sitting here wondering how to handle last years taxes, inventory what to buy what to sell out, I'm sitting on 1200 bucks in race fuel clogging up the shop, the hektic scheduling of work and life (one in the same). Housing situation, land situation, laptop being busted situation, shop situation, truck warranty situation, dog situation. At least there ain't no woman situation right:D . That Crown is starting to calleth out to me again! Oh well, nap maybe before another day.
BTW: I got your KB on the table I had to pull ot and more for the rails. Let me know whether to put it back on or not.:tu:

I forgot I got the rails to you. I bet I have a friend who would say to leave it out...LOL. Let's see if he finds this post in the middle of all the bullsh!t posted on this thread. If he finds the thread...he may get to have his KB quicker than he thought. Then again...we need to make sure we have a whipple to put in it's place. I have to be ready to race by Atlanta FFW in about 4 weeks.
