Yep. It's definitely quick and fast. Personally, I think its the best Grand Cherokee I've ever seen, but then again those aren't tops on my list to begin with.

A friend of mine drove one and said it has a very harsh ride, so much so that he knew right away he could not get it for his fiancee. He did say it ran really well, though.

The funny thing is that I'm betting that in many cases its as fast as the vaunted 500hp V-10 SRT truck Dodge sells, primarily b/c of the manual trans in the truck. And, the Jeep has much more utility.

And $40k? More like a $45k MSRP typically optioned. You won't find one on the lot with the bare bones necessities.

the C&D article said it had a harsh ride. it's gotta be bad for them to say that cuz they're really into road feed-back. as far as the speed goes it's faster than an srt-10 right out of the box. lol

Whaddya expect, it's a JEEP, one-step up from a buckboard!!:rll:

I don't think I've EVER ridden in a Jeep that rode nicely, and it's really not necessary anymore---then again, it's been unnecessary for about 50 years now. :d

I was looking at one of those for a replacement family vehicle when I was looking at the Trailblazer SS. Wife pulled the plug on the SS and she doesn't really like the looks of the SRT-8. I think it would be bad ass to have, but fuel economy is piss poor and it requires premium gas. I think the SS would have been better economically but this thing would kick ass. Too bad I all ready have a vehicle that sucks down the premium stuff like it's going out of style.

No thanks...I'm a Ford guy. Then we have the minivan issue. It's still a minivan.

ok, but its an SUV not a minivan...

me, I am not tied to any particular marque, except the one that I am driving at the time.. I have owned foreign, domestic, GM, Ford, Mopar, etc...

SUV's are minivans in disguise. SUV's where created so that soccer moms could pretend they weren't soccer moms. Trust me though...the rest of us know that behind the wheel of every SUV lurks a minivan owner....;) .

This may be semantics, but I think SUVs are really an over-glorified station wagon. Remember those? Mini-vans came out later, and are completely gutless. Many SUVs have towing capacity and are built on truck chassis'... that's a completely different thing than a FWD mini-van, IMHO.

Tom, I'm like you. I've been seriously considering something a bit smaller than our family vehicle, and that would get better gas mileage. Well, even though our Expedition seems to get ~11-12 city, the SRT-8 isn't going to do any better than that... probably worse with my wife's driving habits (short distances, stop and go). The Trailblazer SS has a cool powerplant, but its still a Trailblazer, which is not the best vehicle in terms of QC (not that an '00 Expedition is either, although at 70k miles, the thing has been pretty darn trouble-free). So I can't justify either of those vehicles. I'd rather get a family sedan, but the Mrs. really likes the current vehicle.

Nothing yet. We've focused on paying off some debt first before the baby comes and we'll probably take advantage of some of the year end closeouts in the 4th quarter of this year. We're seriously considering a 2007 Tahoe...those things drive pretty nice...I just don't want to pay $50K for one right now.

Damn, you're old enough to know better... the first SUV was the damn Suburban, and those were ALWAYS truck-based. Minivans are based on car chassis, and one of the first were the Renault Espace (1984, per Top Gear), and Chrysler went to the minivan shortly thereafter.

SUV: truck based. Minivan: car-based. Endit. :tu:

Of course, that brings up a quandry: how does one class the Mercury Mariner/Ford Escape pair?? :evil

It is actually based on attitude and image. OK...so the SUV is more the Brady Bunch kind of thing. Fact is....the popularity of the SUV stemmed from the mini van. The mini van crowd realized that they where immediately marked as whipped when spotted in a mini van. So they switched to SUV's to hide their shame. Get it now....you focking retard... .

My grandmother for YEARS drove either Suburbans, pickups, or station wagons, because she got the farm-vehicle discount. And back when the hausfraus in HIghland Park started running around in Suburbans, it was because they needed the space (for the kids, yeah, right), and because their husbands registered them to the family farm as a farm vehicle, and so they could get the major registration discounts farmers get. THAT is where the whole damn thing started--people with more money than sense following the JOnes' when they went out and got what amounted to farm vehicles. :tu:
