I have a question about the rear end in the lightning.I know when i burnout it leaves 2 black lines. The rear end is limited slip right? Is there some sort of lock up on the lightning. What started this is,when i powerbrake on the GTO it only leaves one line.Either somethings wrong with rear end or it doesnt have a lock-up light the lightning???

Wet clutch, prelaoded posi trac. The GTO should have one also. Auburn was their OEM for a while.

^^^What he said.
He also told me this a while back, that the preload on our posi's is something like 800lbs, which isn't much. And since mine seems to like to light up the inside tire alot these days, I've decided to pick up the new Detriot True-Trac Torsen diff. :tu: That'll help considerably.

How dare you barstage the Torsen genius! The true track is just an all metal traction diff. True Torsen has a constat drive of 1.1 to both wheels. The True trac just couples them together which actually slows the outside wheel in a turn. There is no Torsen for our trucks due to the limited market share.

gah, sometimes I think you suffer from a lack of cranial oxygen...
Okay, here it goes for the cheap seats: Torsen uses, "Invex gearing in a Torsen differential includ[ing] a gear train arrangement comprised of two or more pairs of satellite gears (called element gears') in mesh with central helical gears (called 'side gears')." (from "Torsen differential white paper" (http://www.sonic.net/garyg/zonc/TechnicalInformation/TorsenDifferential.html) Like this:

This is how Detroit's TrueTrac is arranged:

Ya think they share some similarities, there? ;) Yah, Detroit's design is different, but I suspect they reverse-engineered the design to get past the patents on Gleason's original design.
That white paper is a really nice explanation how the whole phenomenon works, highly-recommended reading.
So do'nt get yer panties in a bunch, they both do the same damn thing--hopefully the TT will work as well (and reports from NLOC are showing it does). :tu:
And Rocks, before YOU get yer panties in a bunch: wouldn't you prefer it if someone saw you spewing something totally wrong, that they *nicely* try to correct you?? I would rather that, because otherwise it means I'm spewing stupidity, and looking stupid. I'd rather *be* right, than *appear* right. ;)

I sure hope that the true trac doesn't slow the "outside" wheel down.;)

The true trac just wedges a metal gear into the case (like an easy out bit) which locks it together it is not a Torsen device. All posis slow the outside wheel because they try to tie both axles together. Just like a spool when you turn the inside wheel is accelreated to keep up with the outside wheel which is being slowed by the resistance of the inside wheel.

Yah, I see what you're saying... but I don't think it'll be quite that bad, since we are talking helical gearing... mmmmm... needs more thinkage...

The 'paper' that came with Ron's True trac showed a metal fluted bit that wedged agaist the case to lock instead of clutches. We all know Torsens are smart gears always in motion. When I install another I will print that diagram for clarity.

Thanks for the info.!!Check out this rear end!! http://www.ryoni.com/news/123/ARTICLE/1306/2005-03-11.html Tex there will be a quiz on this, study hard.

I didn't see a piece of paper in mine, but I dind't actually pull it out of the box yet. I'll look tomorrow.
BTW, how much do you charge to install one? And how much would you knock off to keep me from helping you?? :d
