I posted about a bad misfire last month (http://www.talonclub.com/forum/showthread.php?t=10374) and finally got around to dropping it by the dealer after parking it for 5 weeks. They are covering it under warranty :banana:and replacing one plug, a coil pack and the TPS. Any idea if the bad plug could be related to my #8 pulley and tune? Just wondering if it's a sign of a bad tune (I bought it with mods, no idea what the tune is). I only have 12K on it so it seems unlikely that it's just parts failing (without a little help, anyway).

I still plan to get it to Terry to have him check it but it took me a month just to get time to take it to the dealer and I live close to them (Mesquite)! My EGT guage runs about 1200 degrees on the highway maybe 1300 or so under hard throttle. Does that seem high or even dangerous for the motor and/or stock plugs? Is it safe to keep driving it until I have a free day, or do I need to make it a priority to get to Terry? Anyone with a EGT gauge please let me know whats normal and safe, I've seen too many blown motors on here and am taking this plug failure as a warning of bad things to come! BTW, I was afraid to ask the dealer if my mods caused the plug failure so I don't know if it burned up, cracked or fouled due to weak spark from the coil! Mike

With a 8# pulley you need colder plugs and need to make sure your tune is safe (a/f ratio). I would get it to Terry ASAP and quit messing with the dealer.

Well the dealer called me today and said I actually have NGK plugs in it, not Ford (again I bought it used and did not know what the mods were). The bad plug was shorted (gap closed) which he said might be due to overrevving it?? He said I need to put Motorcraft plugs back in asap as the NGK are more likely to blow off the head. He said the coil was dead and it could either be from the shorted plug or I had a small coolant leak that dripped on it. He's covering the coil and leak but I have to pay for the plugs. Can't complain so far as they are being reasonable and are fixing any little bugs before the warranty runs out. I still don't know if they noticed the #8 pulley as they didnt mention it, but he did say it hasn't ever run nitrous. I have JBA Headers, C&L intake tube, cold air filter and a pillar guage pod so I'm sure they must have suspected it was modded? Oh well, I just need to force myself to take a day off and go see Terry.:bows

I'm sure they saw the pulley. It's super easy to spot... probably the first thing any tech sees when the truck is in the air.

I would not run Motorcraft plugs with an 8# pulley... you could get away with them on a 2# pulley, and that's about it.

The NGK's have to be replaced more often, but they are a better plug for your application. However, it does sound like the dealer (Town East, I presume?) is doing you right and giving you good service given the mods to the truck.

Chart above is very conservative IMHO.
Many run the NGK TR6 and TR6ix up to 20psi with no issues, including me.

Yeah, I know quite well.. but you'd think something posted on NLOC would be correct.
