Has anyone tried this? I dont want to black them out, but my truck has the all black/chrome theme and i figure this would add to it.
Can i get the crap at AZ or Oreileys? Do you just layer it on like normal tint? Spray?

I have mine tinted. It was done using Nite Shades, and then spraying clear coat over it. I think it is only about 3 coats of nite shades. I love the look. Light comes through really well, and you can only tell they are red underneath when direct sunlight shines in them.

Looks good, but you will get stopped (and probably ticketed) for that eventually. :(
I have painted a couple of sets (getting rid of the chrome, Altezza, ricer look) and they turned out well. The black ones look really good. My truck is DSG and I painted them DSG.

Wes did my tails, too, in black, and they look great. You can now get Lightning tails that are painted various colors, saving you alot of time, and letting you keep the stock ones in case you decide to demod later.

I have had them for over two years now (had them on my old truck too) and have never had a problem. I have been stopped multiple times (speeding) and never heard anything about them. Light comes through them just fine, day and night, so I don't think it is a problem.

You've been fortunate, and here's to hoping you will continue to be. The law is very specific (I don't have it handy, but I've read it several times years ago) about having them blacked out. I understand that when they are "on", you can see them (although they are certainly not as bright as without the tint). But the lense also serves as a reflector. With the tint, that purpose is undermined significantly.
Anyway, its a moot point if you don't a ticket, I guess. If you get rear-ended, you're probably going to have to pay your half of the damage, though.

Good point. I guess I will keep the stock ones handy in case I ever get hassled about them. Then I will swap them out. Until then, they just look too damn good to take off.
