Hey fellers...
I figured I'd ask. I've got a Zenith 42" projection TV that has not worked for years. The projection unit screwed up and I found out there was a recall where they fixed it. It went out again and we just haven't done anything with it since. Everything else works fine, and we'd like to see what it'll take to fix it, and if possible get it fixed without costing me my ass. Anyone in the club do TV repair?

You don't fix TV's you throw them away or terminate with extreme prejudice. Search eBay maybe there is a common replacement part.

Best Buy won't even repair a TV more than a couple years old under their extended warranty. I have had a couple different buds score free TV sets from them in lieu of repair under the plan.

I know it's old technology, and I would love nothing more than dumping the thing, but my wife insists on fixing it. Last quote I got was over $600 to fix it, and that was before the warranty fix. That's more than we paid for the freaking thing. Anyway, just grabbing at straws to appease the missus.

Not too many around it seems. THey are definitely aware of that and charge accordingly. I have a 42" NEC Plasma monitor that needs repaired and I haven't been able to find anyone local to do it. I admit I haven't looked that hard, but usually a quick search on the internet will do the trick.
If you find a good reputable repairman let me know.

Since it seems my prior reply got deleted, I"m gonna repost it:
Okay, Tom, here's what you do:
Get your tool belt/tool box. Open up the TV, and act like your'e fixing it. Maybe print off some stuff from the web that looks like repair instructions. Pull out some tools, get in there and fumble around a bit; then grab something heavy like a hammer or a big wrench, and "accidentally" drop it into one of the projector guns. Problem solved: not fixable, need new one. :tu:

K&O electronics on LBJ and Marsh is the only good repair shop that I know of. I don't have there number handy but you can find it in the book. If that don't work I would be happy to make you a deal on a new set

I fixed the free 50" tv I got from Bobby. I took the back off of it and hit it with my 3,000,000,000 mile per hour leaf blower. Crap went everywhere in my living room, but it worked. every component had at least 1/4 of dust on it.

Yeah, that's usually the #1 cause of electronics crapping out.

Dude, I've been married for 7 years. Rule in our house... I take care of electronics, cars and groceries, she takes care of furniture and kids clothes..
No need for the woman to be messin' with a mans electronics. That just ain't right.

In laws gave us the TV...theoretically it is hers. She doesn't want to just trash something her folks gave use without giving it a try at fixing it...

Okay, so break out the tool belt, open the back of it... Sit back there for a while making some noise, wipe some grease on your forehead, close it back up and say... "Okay, It's dead. Can I throw it out now pls?"
