Is there a way we can restrict new accounts from posting classifieds in the For Sale forum until they reach a certain post count, or if they become a supporting member of TALON? I think that might be a better way to go in the future, since apparently most people can't read things in large font, bold, red letters.

Thoughts?

We tried this before and I ended up turning it off.. I have reenabled it

Not sure if it works or not Ill test it later - Should restrict registered users from posting new threads in the for sale section - once they get a min number of posts they get promoted to "Participating user " and then they get access to post..

+1

or at least become a paying member first.. not too much to ask to have them make a small contribution to the cause first..

Well

Downsides are associated with lurkers - a local guy who wants to sell something cheap that we want - Lurks here but doesnt post - we have over 280 regular visitors

OR a local guy that wants to buy what we are selling -

The way its setup now ( if it works ) the new user is a "Registered User" till they post a magic minimum number of times, then an hour after that they get auto promoted to "Participating user" at that point they can post a NEW thread in the for sale section.

Well see how that works

That guy could still send a PM though right?

Yeah we don't need to run off EVERYONE by a pay to sell thing. Especially just ot reply to a sale thread. I think a min post of time will help. Of course they will just start posting it in another forum asking for a spanking...

Well, we just have to watch things. I think just as long as it is visible, but new users cannot post, should be enough. Unlocking posting in that forum by post count or by how long they have been a member, or if they PayPal, any of the three, would be a good idea.

It would help if you guys would stop encouraging people by being all interested in their questionably sourced parts, too :d
