while i was getting my pre-ported s/c dyno today at speedtek, in haltom city, i was looking at a silver L (member here?) they had on a rack, and it had the motoblue cogged belt system on it. pretty cool looking, supposed to be an instant 40ftlbs of torque (according to their tech), can't find the motoblue site for pics but here's a link to some.

took my six lb lower off and put the four back on since i can't run it with the ported s/c (read you really can't go 16 lbs of boost on what i have), 14 will have to do (lol). all i really have is the 4 and terry's download tune. incidentals on my truck are sbtb, IT22s, opened-up stock air box w/k&n drop-in, 170* stat, and mag. cat-back. 383 hp/471 tq seems kinda low but heck i don't know, it might be right for what i have. the steig stage 4 and a jlp blower spacer (not phenolic spacer) are going on this week (terry's not too busy i hope). maybe that'll put me in the 425/500ish catagory with a tune tweak...ya think?

There have been other posts about the cog system, nothing new.

Why not run the ported blower with 6# pulley?? I'm running 2.8 upper, 6# lower and adding a ported blower next weekend. Its all in the tune, plus if I remember you have an AEM wide band. . . . you dont have to guess what your a/f ratio is. I say leave the 6# on with the ported blower, and you should be just fine. You might want to add a Fluidyne Heat Exchanger just to run cooler.

Gary here is my dyno with the ported blower and the 4lb lower/stock upper. The only other mods I had at the time were s/b t/b, electric fan, and heat exchanger.

cool. as for the 6 i guess we'll see. yes i've got an aem w/b so maybe terry can beef-up the tune a tad. with the six i might have to go with 2400 maf, if so that's cool too.

you should be fine with the 6# and the ported Eaton

I've heard a few things about these, mostly negative--can't see why tho. :( I would think they'd be a better way to go.

Damn, talk about having "blinked since then"... :eek2::( I forgot about that completely, and ahve been in a few "discussions" of cogs since then.

I"ve had alot of experience with cog belts, in the copier industry--most copiers are driven in some way, shape, or form with cog belts. THe advantage of the cog is that it's basically a "flexible gear", and doesn't require excessive tension to negate slippage. The primary problem is "walk", but pulley end plates solves that one pretty well.

Most of the NLOC folk say that putting a cog belt either "overspins the blower" (WTF??? like anyone with a pulley isn't doing that already), or the "cog belt system destroys the blower bearings", which to me is bogus unless they're overtensioning them and the cogs are trying to skip out of the pullies.

So I'd say it's a cool idea, except for the cost.
