These things are scary, I have a ton of them inside my house and in the sheds out back. This reminds me that I'm due to call the pest contol back for the 90 day spray. In the sheds I pour seven dust around the walls every couple of months and that seems to help a lot. Probably not real safe for human health but I don't spend any time in there other than to get out tools and such.

I tore down some sheetrock in one of my rooms last year and found almost a dozen of these brown recluse inside the walls! That's when I decided to get on a regular commercial treatment.

I got bitten last year on the back of my leg. It didn't get that bad though because I knew what it was and went straight to the ER.

My Uncle however was not so fortunate. He got bitten on his calf at a family reunion a couple of years ago. He had to have a baseball sized chunk of flesh removed.

Those things dont play. The ones that really get bad are those left untreated, no fun regardless

I got bit by one of those a couple of years ago on my wrist at my house. They don't hurt when they bite you, so I didn't think it was anything. I waited a day to go to the doctor. It didn't get that bad, cause the doctor cut out all the affected area and dead skin right away. He said if I had waited longer it would have gotten much worse. I had to take medicine for a couple of weeks. Needless to say, I now know the difference between the poisonous spiders and the non-poisonous ones.

The ex (Jennifer) was bitten by one. Her heel / achilles looked like an oozing mass of frying bacon.:eek2:

Luckily, we caught it in time and she was ok.

What's funny is I've never seen a brown recluse in all my years (every one 'cept one) here in Texas. Wolf spiders, black widows, daddy longlegs, etc; but never a brown recluse.

The present domicile is a haven for spiders, and I get all sorts that play with the crawdads. I don't kill them too often because they eat pests and I like that (maybe that's why the BC's have left me alone :D).

Usually when I get bitten or stung by anything, I know it and I treat it very quickly. And I'm not adverse to cutting into myself to get hold of something that's not supposed to be there. :tu:

I went to the lake after work last night to clean the winters dust - dirt and bird crap off the boat. There ae always TONS of spiders on the docks. While I was there a neighbor mentioned that 2 guys down the dock had been bitten recently and "were pretty sick" - I have to assume the bites were brown recluse. :ron: A buddy got bit a few years back by a brown recluse while working on his boat - He got it in the thigh and it took out a BIG chunk of flesh. He was a mechanic and didnt beleive in Dr's . He toughed it out and lost a lot of his thigh. /:ron:
I dont have a problem going to the Dr or ER for that kind of thing. I know some people would rather rot than pay the $69 co pay though...

I was bitten on the thumb like the guy in the picture a few years back. I waited a few days to get treated....Big mistake. I still have my thumb but it hasn't been right since. I know better now.

Man I had no idea they were that common. I hate spiders and I kill them all, but I did have a pet tarantula once  he was pretty cool.

These guys are more common than you think! I also got nailed on the back of my calf 2 years ago. Never felt the bite just the aftermath...

That picture is how they typically look most of the time, but they can vary in size and color. I've found them in my house from a very light tan to almost black in color. Also I've seen them from 1/2" around up to bigger than 1" around. I saw two really large ones last year that their butt parts were swelled up and were completely white in color with the rest of their body the normal light brown.

My wife just reminded me that she caught one in our kitchen a few years ago, put it in a jar and showed it to the Truly Nolan guy when he came by to spray.
The guy squealed like a little girl. :rll:
It was a pretty big one though, wouldn't fit in a tea cup with it's legs extended and the body was fat.

I wish you had pictures, because it would be good to be sure that they can look differently than the one pictured above.

:rll: [:ron:]The wife found a rather large spider in the garage at the frisco house a few years ago, told me to get rid of it; when I went to catch/release it, I found out it was a HUGE black widow! :eek2: So I caught it, put it in my betta cup, and took it to work, putting it on my desk and seeing who noticed and who got scared. Teh funneh! [/:ron:]

Ditto. Lived in Texas all my life, and I've never seen a brown recluse except in pics. Just lucky, I suppose.

Come to think of it, I've had encounters with some sort of brown spider that likes to build ugly webs in trees and on porches, that has a fat butt... mebbe that's what we're talking about... :eek2:

The brown recluse doesn't build webs.

I would take pictures of them to show the differences but I don't give them the chance to run and hide, so a picture of a smushed spider doesn't help much.:)

Since this thread, I've been paying a little closer attention to the critters, and damned if I ahven't seen a fiddleback yet. Plenty of wolf spiders, and a few ugly BW webs, but no fiddlebacks
