Anyone here have a recommendation on a company that could bid a lawn sprinkler install? My yard is dead enough now that i need to work on it, and one of the first things I want to do is get a sprinkler system installed.

This is the city information that I am dealing with. Looks like I need a licensed installer at least. Plus this is the type of job I want no part of in doing myself....

dont forget to look at the water conservation rules - Carrollton has changed the watering rules twice since Ive been here and each time ( if I cared ) it would have required a NEW brain for the system - TO be able to water on he days your house number is divisble by a prime number greater than 12 for example .. Kidding

I'm also interested in a recommendation as well. I'd like to know how much it will cost me too.

I'll have to look through my paperwork, but I had one installed about 5 years ago. They did a great job and were in and out in about 2 days. I've got a big cul-de-sac lot and they put in a 12-station system with 18 rotating heads and about 50-60 pop ups for about $3500 (if you think that's high, you should have seen some of the other bids  ). If you've got a "normal" sized lot you can probably get away around $2K. I'll post up the name of the company when I get home.

By the way...CGreen = $$$$$$$$$$$$$$:hammer: :flaming: . Just an FYI; they were the highest bidder by a landslide.

And definitely not a job you want to do yourself...I've modified a few of the stations and added heads and that was absolute pure hell.

Call Glenn Repp at Glenn's Irrigation, 972-291-9401. He is a licensed irrigator and does excellent work. He's done the sprinkler systems at both of my houses, and I've always been happy with the work.

Thanks Moonshine!
My lot is about 10,000ft minus the house (1500ft), 2 car garage, and driveway. I'm hoping it will be cheap. I'll call them for an estimate next week.

He'll also throw in a gift certificate :tu:Raise the flag! It normally costs about $300 a station unless they are jacking the price up. Toms quote was very reasonable.

I pretty much did my own. My house orginally came with the 20 year old system when I bought it. I found out that 20 years is all they last, within a 2 year span every single valve and every single head had to be replaced due to failure or extensive wear. They orginally did a poor layout job so I redesigned it and replaced everything. I did it one section at a time by hand. In my case, since there was already an existing system I can change it or do just about anything I want without needing a license.

All my new stuff I used schedule 40 PVC pipe instead of that really thin stuff. If you ever been digging around the yard if you so much a bump one of those thin pipes they shatter. I don't know that any of the irrigation installers do the thicker pipe like that, might be work asking though. I also installed union fittings at all the valves so that they could be repaired or replaced quickly without a major cutting and refitting operation.

I had an ex-girlfriend get her whole lot done for a typical residential lot with all popups for about $1400 3 years ago.

Also make sure they quote you for head to head coverage. That means that there is always at least 2 heads covering every square inch of the area being watered. The reputable places should do this. Don't settle for less, you'll be sorry.

He called me back within a few hours and said he was really busy, but was glad for the referral. Don't know what to tell you. It's business, so if he doesn't call back in a reasonable amount of time I'd move on.

Well hopefully I will hear from him soon. I have seen several sprinkler systems that suck, so the fact that you have seen his work twice means a lot. I'm not necessarily in a hurry to get the system, but I do need a price so that I know if it is within my reach or if I should just use the money on something else.

Thanks for all your help.

its tough in general to get lawn service people to respond, do what you pay them for, work for reasonable prices, treat your property as if its thiers, etc etc

Try Turf Masters out of Mansfield. I've never used them for irrigation but they redid some of the city's work on my front yard (at the city's expense) and the quality and attention to detail was top notch. Me being a perfectionist, and I thought they did a good job. They specialize in irrigation too. It would probably be worth a phone call.

Had mine put in in April 1999 and so far has worked well. Only one call back to fix a control valve in 2000. Contractor was Fox landscaping & Irrigation. 972-329-6560.
My only advise is to get schedule 40 pvc pipe for all pressure lines, i.e., from double check backflow valve to any control valve. The thin wall is OK down stream of control valves, where pressure is not constant. Most contractors want to use the thin wall so they can use smaller OD pipe. On a typical 10 to 12 zone job, additional cost will be +- $200. (5% to 10% of total cost) Any pipe run close to trees (schedule 40 or not) will develope breaks/leaks from root growth in 15 to 20 years. Be sure to get a plan showing location of pipe runs, so you can dig without hitting em.:tu:
