Went back to working on the foreign car.
Those are carburetors for the young-ins

Balanced the flow rates, set float levels, adjusted idle settings and high speed circuits, on all 6 today, a little old school tuning.;)

Yes, twin Weber 40 IDA 3Cs,

~200 parts in each one.

78 labeled parts in the manual times 2 to 3 for each cylinder, depending on the part number.

Can dis-assemble, clean and re-assemble them with my eyes almost closed, done it ~40 times(20(maybe more) x 2 carbs) for me and others.

They are extremely sensitive to sitting and very small particles(rusty gas tanks in old cars).

I had a 72 bug(Mom's car) that I took to college, put another motor in it with Webers.
Mom said "it seems a little more peppy" when she drove it when I came home.:D
Dad had mixed emotions with my driving record at that time.

Ah, yes.... Webers: "fuel injection" without the issues of the old mechanical injectors. Side-draft, downdraft: simply the best fuel delivery systems for a very long time, until the advent of computer-controlled fuel injection.

Ok, I recall when you could take a Kharman Ghia, slap some Webers on it, a few more mods and then go out and do some Porsche hunting.. those things would wind up on the highway too.. or am I mistaken on this one? Wasnt that back in the day when both Porsche and VW had the same owners or had the same basic engine in them?

the vw engine is basicly a porshce engine.. Mr. porsche is the one that designed the VW bug to begin with for Adolf hitler

Dana, you must be farting dust because its been decades since Porsche and VW shared power. All I can say about the Porsche's is they are built for a type of performance that American car companies do not understand but at the same time they will break your heart everytime with carbs on 'em. Mark you should know what I mean. Keep tissues handy.

Well I am prob farting dust.. but I am thinking back to the 60's or early 70's.. I did say Kharmann Ghia.. although.. I wouldnt mind having an old 914 but only with the 6 cylinder.. the wife loves the old "bathtub" Porsche and the 911.. If we make it back to D, wonder if Mark would want to tackle a 911 restoration but with upgrade project.. it would have to be fuel inj,, I am not a carburetor guy anymore.

Biggest difference is that VW has the cam in the block with push rods. Porsche's have over head cams.
Restoring a 911 is just plain stupid, unless it has some very historic relevance.
There are tons of them available with low miles and in pristeen condition for good prices.

:rll: "farting dust"... bwahahaha... :d

Actually, those motors were mirror-images of each other, meaning you couldn't swap parts over and hope they could work.

Well that and alot of other things like a bug is 4 holes and a 911 is 6, but I won't go into a history lesson on Dr Ferdinand or Ferry as it is overly documented. One below.

Sorry, shoud've clarified: 356's, 912's, and 914's with the boxer-fours were mirror-image motors of the VW boxer-4's.
