I went to visit my parents this weekend and some how we got on the topic of afgan/iraq war. I mentioned one of my college friends was over in afgan right now, and my dad said "Oh yeah, some company named Blackwater called me last week and offered me a job as an intelligence officer in irag/afgan at $200k." "They said I came highly recommended by a top military official". He politely turned it down, on the basis that he has a good life and is retired with a healthy income and didnt feel like being shot at anymore. He showed me the recieved call on his cell phone too, no kidding. Apparently they knew all about his history in the Marines. He is also buddies with alot of the top brass in washington. I think its kind of funny because my dad is 58 years old (and a little overweight) and they wanted to pay him to go to a war zone. Somehow I just cant picture my old man in tac gear with a beard and sunglasses holding some decked-out M4.

But still braggin rights for him I guess. I'm sure less than 1% of the military gets that kind of offering.

(for those of you that dont know, Blackwater is the largest private security contractor in Iraq/Afgan. Basically soldiers for hire who get paid in the $300k salary range. They only recruit ex-special forces guys.)

I know what Blackwater is. Good for your Dad for not letting the money tempt him. There's a good chance he would've gotten maimed or killed.

True, Andrew. It's probably not the right time in life for your Father to go playing Cowboys-and-Indians again in the sandbox.

Deep in the back of my mind, I kind of wish I would some day get that phone call. (But I know that will never happen because I havent served in the armed forces). But I guess its one of those jobs that looks really cool, untill you actually have to do it.... I'm sure it prolly sucks to be shot at and burned alive in your SUV.
