Saw a news article yesterday that the Air Force is about to make a final recommendation on a name for the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter. And the leading name is Lightning II. :nana2 However, the article also said that other potential names, like Mustang, were ruled out due to copyright infringement. OK, a few random thoughts;

1. Cool name for a bad arse aircraft, so :tu: .
2. Hmm, hope Lightning II isn't to Lightning as Mustang II was to Mustang. :vomit:
3. If other names were eliminated due to copyright infringements, does this mean Ford hasn't copyrighted the Lightning name? :nono:

I doubt they have copyrighted Lightning

If they did I would likely have gooten a nasty gram by now

Would be a cool name for a fighter - it has a cool history as well

I would think that there wouldn't be any copyright infringment issues - but, there was the P-51 Mustang, too. Hard to say. Technically, the military and Lockheed had the P-38 Lightning in WWII. http://www.aviation-history.com/lockheed/p38.html

Looks to be a very promising fighter: http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/systems/aircraft/f-35.htm

I certainly hope it lands the "Lightning" title. :bows
