Well, my brother in law backed out on his new GT-500 that he had a deposit on. The North Carolina dealer wants $65k!:hammer:

He ordered a regular mustang gt instead.

Wow, what a mark up!

What was the cost to build and what were people expecting they were going to be sold for?

Pricing info here:

http://www.fordpower.net/main/News/Mustang-News/2007-Shelby-GT500-(MSRP)-Price-Released.html

* Shelby Coupe - $40,930 + $1300 GG Tax + $745 = $42,975
* Shelby Convt. - $45,755 + $1300 GG Tax + $745 = $47,800

Remember these prices are just Base prices with no options so the prices will be even more when you get done optioning the thing out. Nobody said this was going to be cheap and right they were.

I have seen dealer "price adjustments" between $15-$20K over sticker.

A friend of mine in Cincy said his local dealer just got one. He called one of his friends who works there (salesman) and was told the car sold for $20k over sticker.

Some people have to be first to get the latest and greatest.

DANG!! if you've got the money, and it's no big deal, then why not?

As many of these as they are making the markups wont likely last long

Certainly true. However, these are not your typical Mustang enthusiasts that Ford has got to market to in order to sell all the Shelbys they produce. Ford would lose their shirt 100x over if they had a sticker of $60-65k on these cars.

I took a look at the link. I'd never heard of a Gas Guzzler Tax before and it's been around since 78? :eek:

How many GT-500s are they making? I heard awhile back that that these weren't going to be a SVT Dealership item only so I'm guessing a lot.

Yep, GGT has been around awhile. Pontiac GTOs (with auto trans) get hit, too. The '03-04 Cobras got hit. A number of high end performance sedans (Mercedes) get nailed with it.

I believe Ford is going to make at least 10k units a year of the Shelby. How many years that actually lasts... that's the question. I don't trust Ford at all.

Supply and demand at its best. The GGT is a federal sham. THe new Z06 gets 20+mpg as does the Ford GT. That isn't a guzzler IMO. The Viper and a handful of exotics are the only true guzzlers...

Steve,

Can you post the name of the dealership? 65k is a small price to pay....we want to call them and buy it if it's still available. No chance in hell of finding one here.

Thanks,

Tom

not to be a party pooper but

Lets revisit this thread in 6 months to see what the privilege of driving a cool new car for 6 months costs....

$65K for a GT500? No way I'd pay that. Don't get me wrong, I like the new Shelby Mustang and would love to own one, but not at that price.

For $10K more I'd be tempted to buy a new Z06 and have a mid-11 second, corner carving supercar right off the showroom floor.

About $15-18k. They'll still be getting over sticker for the first year, IMHO. I could be wrong... but I am also predicting a much shorter production run than what Ford will publicly say. I give it 2 years max, but quite possibly 12-16 months. I hope I'm wrong.

Where can you buy a brand new C6 Z06 for $75k? I'm not being sarcastic. I just didn't know they were getting down that low.

According to the guys over at the Z06 forum http://www.z06vette.com/forums/showthread.php?t=99382 dealers aren't getting much over sticker these days. MSRP on a 2006 Z06 runs about $66K. Add in a few options plus TT&L, that should put the drive-out between $72K-$75K

Got ya. I just don't spend enough time out on the Vette forums to stay informed. I know the '07 model will see a $5-6k rise in MSRP from the factory.

I had two customers order their Z06 from Classic Chevy in Grapevine for MSRP. If you wanted one off the lot they charged 3-5K premium for the convenience.

Yup, thats what Ken Thompson of the Thompson group at Classic Chevrolet told my dad when we looked at them about a month ago. He said we could drive off the lot for $67,xxx. Of course Ken is a client of my dads and gives better prices on animal work for better prices on car costs. He is the man to see about buying Vettes :tu: Bought both my Gen 2 L's from Ken as well as all of my dad's Vettes
