I need to put a french drain in my back & side yards; Just wondering if anyone knows of someplace to get some rock or gravel cheap?
Thanks,
Steve

I've just called around to get the best price at the time. Just look up "Sand & gravel" and possibly "dirt" in the yellow pages. I've done a couple of french drains recently. Make sure you do the mesh liner over the pipe, I recommend using something larger like the 4-6" river rock. They are really big and drain well and relatively attractive compared to gravel, and because they are so big they are less likely to get kicked out into the yard. Gravel is so small it tends to migrate out into the yard and get hit by the lawnmower which can cause problems.

I usually buy all my rock from "Whiz Q Stone" off 820 just on the other side of Lake Arlington in Fort Worth. They have various sizes of rock and gravel and in bulk.
Ditto on the perforated pipe with the sock liner- keeps the silt build up to a minimum.

Give Rocky's stone and more a call down in Mansfield.

Steve, you might want to run to Lowes and have a look at a product called "Akwadrain". It's a self-contained drainage system, that requires only a narrow slit to bury it. http://www.geo-synthetics.com/Geocomposite_Soil_Strip_Drains.asp
It's actually less expensive than 3" perforated-and-socked drain line, and when you take into account the cost of gravel and the trench itself, it ends up being ALOT cheaper. It's at Lowes, check it out.
