We decided to go ahead and rent out my girlfriends townhouse last month. We got a call from the new tenent saying that TXU won't turn the power on because something is wrong with the meter box and it's a fire hazard. After a bunch of compaining the tenent was able to get it temporarly turned on until we could get it fixed.
I'm wondering what the problem could be because it's been fine for the past 30 years so I go over there and take a look. It turns out the TXU ripped the box off the wall when they were pulling the meter out after my girlfriend called to have the power turned off in her name.
She made an angry phone call to TXU only to be told that it's not their problem even if they did do the damage and thats it's her responsibility to pay to get it fixed.
I normally do all my own electrical work but I'm not going to risk the consequences of cutting the tab off the meter to fix it myself. Especially knowing that they are going to send out an inspector right away to inspect the repair.
