I bought a 3 hold pillar gage pod. I got it today, and I'm painting it now. Trying to get gages installed before I take it to Terry.

I was trying to figure out how the factory pillar comes out while waiting between coats of paint. The only thing I can see is that it just pops out.
Or is there a hidden screw? I know it's a dumb question.... I just don't want to tear it up, not just yet any way.

Thanks
Charlie

depends on the year

if there is a handle in it you have to remove the 2 screws holding the handle

Dont remember if my 2000 had a handle and not sure but I think the ones without the handle just snap in start at the headliner and work down - if you dont see any caps to cover screw holes you are good

CharlieIf there is no handle then it should just pop off.:tu:

Well bummer ... it just poped off ok... but the one I bought does not just pop on. I was hopping I would not have to drill any holes. I guess I should have painted the studs.

The pillar you bought likely fits over the stock one.

Yeah it does. I have to drill it and use the plastic snaps to hald them together.

Mine had the handle on it, so I bent up a piece of sheet metal to mount the new 3-hole pod. It attaches to the pillar using the handle mount bosses. The new pod/trim attaches to that using 3 of those little plastic studs on the front side, and just tucks under the door seal on the rear side. Works like a champ, and I still have the original undamaged trim tucked away in a safe place.:tu:

I just used the new pillar pod by itself because I didn't want to drill my factory one for the plastic attachment pins. It also gives me more room for wiring and such. I used two ss pan head machine screws with the same thread size as the threaded inserts in the a-pillar, 8-32 or 10-32 I think. I don't know if yours would have that if it didn't have the handle though.

To transfer the hole for the exact location to the new pillar pod I cut a q-tip in half and dipped the end in some paint and stuck it in the threaded hole for the handle screw. I then set the new pillar in the right position and I get a fresh paint dot in the exact location where I need to drill the hole. I liked this solution over what most people do by drilling a hole randomly through the pod pillar and using a sheetmetal screw or even worse a drywall screw.

For my second screw I didn't have a threaded hole, so I drilled and tapped a hole in the a-pillar and repeated the same process as above.

Just my luck... I allready cut up the piller for more wire space. Oh well it's in. Now to figure out where the fuel pressure switch goes.
