Hey Tif, sounds like your truck is gonna be a beast!:tu: I just have a quick question. Any particular reason for the 3200 rpm converter? That's a pretty high stall speed for an L man. L's make such prodigous low end torque, that higher stall speeds really aren't necessary, especially on a primarily street driven truck.

The truck will be nearly imposible to get out of the hole on the street. Drag Radials or not. I struggled getting mine out of the hole on the street with DR's even before the KB and with only a 2400 rpm stall speed.

Once you're out of the hole, the stall is no longer helping and can actually cost you MPH on the other end due to slippage. The higher the stall speed, the more slippage.

A 2400-2600 rpm stall should be more than sufficient, and should be good for consistent 1.6 second 60' times in good air(on slicks). This is just my opinion based on my experiences, and others I have personally witnessed. Just wanted to throw that out there, in case the stall hasn't been installed yet. Either way, I hope it works out for you, and ENJOY!

Of course not, I really hate dealing with people off the internet.

That's the 5th or 6th one that has fallen through. :hammer:

first off the blower had a bad clatter at idle that terry said was the spider that gets wore out in the older models, and now since i have put about few hours worth of runtime on it it has some whining noise coming from it like gears or something i dont know how to explain it but it just started and its bad enough i pulled the blower belt just incase its anything bad, i dont know wtf is going on i just hope i get it sorted out before lfest

Call Kenne Bell and have them overnight you the updated spider gears. They should know exactly what you need. They're on the West Coast, so start calling them around 11:00-ish tomorrow morning. That's probably all you're hearing.

went to terry's again today and we pulled the snout off the KB and there were pieces of the gears laying in the bottom of the snout(terry will post pics later) so we boxed it and off to Kenne bell it goes for a rebuild, i guess this kind of stuff happens and it will be all worth it in the end.

again thanks to terry for my loaner blower till the kb get back, hes a lifesaver and i recommend his services to any and everyone!!

Terry,
Thanks for helping a brother out. Tifton will get the KB repaired at no charge hopefully, and I got my drive shaft loop in time for LFest.
You are the man!
:bows
PS - Thanks for the Pizza Tifton.

Thanks, I am eating the left over pizza for dinner now. You got me running behind on my motor job now! I need a stock IC resivour if you have one! I am just about out of tricks and extra Lightning parts to keep you running Tiffo:rolleyes: . The worn spider coupling only make the clunk and growling noise. Severe gear whine or other high pitched noises are BAD and blower failure is eminent.

Man Tifton that really sucks about the KB. If its not one thing its another. Hopefully you will get it fixed and hopefully somehow they wont charge you for fixin it.

Not sure what your point is here but your negative posts are not particularly motivating. I have spent every waking hour this month trying to fix everyone's mechanical needs. Tiffton is broke, calling into work because his truck won't run. It is his only transportation and risking his only job. I am just trying to do all I can as usual. I have set the next two days aside for your truck. If you want to cop a tude and flame my posts here that is stress I don't need at the 24th hour:( . Thanks, Terry

None of this metal debris got sucked into the motor, did it? I'm not familiar with the internals of a KB. I know on the "turbine" type blowers (centrifugals), once you start getting metal on metal contact and the accompanying "shavings", your motor just ingested a lot of crap.

Sorry to hear about your problems. Hopefully KB will help you out.

It will not go into the motor, I had the same issue a couple of years ago at LFest, for those of you that heard it.

I bought the KB from KB and it has been rebuilt twice for free, I have a very early one that has been fully updated, perfect since then.

How old/how many miles on this blower? What causes this; bearing wear, main shaft flex?

I think... This blower was beat hard, long and with little or no oil. The serial number is circa 2003, it is on its 3rd owner (that we know of). When installed it only had half an ounce of toasty oil in it, not KB spec oil. There was a bunch of slack in the coupling. The coupling usually wears due to the camming effect of built engines slapping it back and fourth from loping idle. It was also a black coupler with was superceded by the new green couplers. It also had a 3" Reichard pulley that looked to have been changed a dozen times too many.
I think the bearings are okay, it is the gears that galled together and broke off.
