I'm having a problem getting my washing machine back together. Initially it wouldn't spin and I think I have that fixed, but when I put it all back together, big surprise, it leaked. :hammer:
The leak appears to be coming from the bottom and I'm guessing there's something wrong at the tub connection. Below the tub, there is a sort of ring that looks like maybe teflon? Four bolts go through it I'm thinking that's probably it. Maybe get a new ring? The four bolts that hold the tub in shouldn't allow any water to pass, but it doesn't look like there's any kind of gasket or anything that would prevent water going down.
While it was leaking, I noticed if I moved the whole machine that the leak would stop.
Any ideas other than to call Maytag?

I would get a new seal. Rule of thumb is never reuse a seal if you can get a new one, especially teflon ones.

Thanks for the replies. It probably is the seal.
I posted it over at applianceblog.com also just to double check. That's a great site Mike and thanks!!

Brook,
Is the washing machine under warranty? Where did you get it - Lowes, Home Depot, etc?
Sometimes, they are good about sending a tech. out to fix it. That's been my experience with Lowe's Whirlpool washer/driers.

If none of the above work, give Adam the Answerman a call (posted elsewhere in the forum, can be found via Google). They're in Dallas off Forest and Plano Rd., and will help you out and sell you the parts you need. If you need additional help, gimme a call, I've fixed a couple washers in my day.

I won sorta'.
The new gasket was actually a gasket and not a micro thin piece of teflon. It's hard to believe that gasket started life out so thick.
Put it all back together and it wouldn't stop filling. All the wires were in the right place, but I forgot to secure (i.e. put back) the hose on the load selector that apparently has something to do with sensing water pressure. I'm still not sure I fixed the original problem, but I just ran a load with no problems.
This is why I don't work on the L. I'd probably forget to put stuff back in.
Like pistons.
Thanks all for the replies. My total cost was $3.00 and a trip to the gasket selling store. Mike, that really was a great site. All kind of good info there.

It kept me from buying a new dryer a couple of months ago!
