From my limited understanding, Oracle has a number of server engines which, in the case of a disk-failure, it can fail-over and try to maintain 99.999% availability. Granted, there is ALOT going on at the database / OS level. I'm only involved at the app. level.

If it's anything like my software, Informatica, you can setup fail-over/high-availabilty grid strategies and keep running workflows/sessions running seemlessly no matter if one, two or X number of disks crash.

I will say that of all the IT shops that I've worked across the country, Oracle is darned stable.
