Im sorry to say that Cathys ( Aggie Mom ) dog Quita passed away this weekend. Sudden Heart failure.
She was 13 and was Cathys constant companion. She traveled with her every where she went - lightning copilot.
Picture here http://aggiemom.net/pets.htm

As you might expect Cathy is taking it pretty hard. The next few days will be pretty tough.
She is looking for another Chihuahua. She would prefer a young small brown ( blonde) female, rescue dog. But she will consider any Chihuahua that she makes a connection with. If you guys hear of a Chihuahua needing a home send AggieMom a PM. She is scouring the local rescue organizations in SA but the choices are limited.
Thanks
Doug

Cathy/AggieMom,
Sorry to hear of your loss, as well. :( If I would've known, I would've chilled-out on my deer-hunting posts recently and not upset you.
Everytime I visit the parents, I don't miss a chance to "wrassle" with my red-heeler cowdog, Junior. That's my dogger!
I'll have to ask my new neighbor about a new Chihuahua (sp?) puppy for you as she's a serious dog-person here in the Plano area.
I ran across a rather interesting quote recently: Pain is a basic fact of life. Misery is an option. I've thought about this at length, as it seems to be true.:)
Take care and be strong. You'll be fine.

Cathy, Doug, the local shelter has a blonde female, 2-3 years old, spayed, housebroken, owner surrender, that may be available for adoption. Slight question on temperament, as she's occasionally a little snappy. Can one of you call me ASAP?

Oh man...that is really bad news. You know where to come if Cathy needs to visit a "brother from another mother". Some folks don't realize just how attached women get to their Chihuahua's. Beth takes that darned dawg everywhere with her. They are like having another kid...only difference is that a Chihuahua is loyal.
Sorry to hear of this Cathy...:(.

Thank you to everyone for your kind words. It means more to me than you can imagine. I am getting better, but I am just devastated. The day before she died we were out feeding the deer and playing our "monster dog" game that we played everyday. That dog was my entire life. She went everywhere with me. I talked to the lady today at the Duncanville shelter and she was afraid that the dog may not be too "people friendly" but I am going to go see her when I am in Dallas this weekend. I am also going to see another 2yr red smooth coat female in Watuga Tx. Rocks, if I can't find one soon, I may just have to come by a visit your daughters Chihuahua. Again, thank you so much.

Well, I guess you would want a more social animal though I couldn't imagine why.. The best dog I ever had was raised from a puppy as commercial secutiry dog that hated about anything consuming oxygen. Who would imagine why we got along so well:rolleyes: . We were a great team to about 12-13yrs of age as well. Rescuing is dandy, but if a puppy now or such is what you want I wouldn't hesitate one bit. My dad bought a ShiTzu from a 'good breeder' and it died of Kidney failure at three months of age. So now he has a Shepherd female pup that is doing great.

I may just end up getting a puppy. The older ones that I look at seem to have a bit of an "attitude". It's no wonder, most of them have been abused. Chihuahua's are a one owner type dog and not very trusting of others. (Sounds like the perfect dog for me). The one that I am looking at in Watuga this weekend was a breeders dog, it's 2 years old, but had to be "emergency" spayed and can't breed anymore. She really doesn't have a breeders "farm", but raises them in her home. That makes me feel a little better. The lady said the dog is very affectionate, weighs 4 pounds and travels well. Doug's going to go with me to check it out. He should like that. The lady is a former playboy bunny! Hopefully I can make a connection with that one. If not, I'm getting a puppy.
p.s. Terry, your dad's dog is cute.

No offense, but shelterd dogs are usually messed up.I feel for em,but unless you can get a puppy from there i wouldnt recommend it.I plan on gettin a female for my teacup C. and first litter ill notify you.Best to pay the 4-500 bucks and get a good bred AKC C..They have bad spinal problems and other things to watch out for.Best to go to a known breeder and pick a winner out.You can get good deals @ the Canton fleamarket but watch out for the genetic defects. It always comes down to you get what u pay for unless your just lucky.Ill post when i get my first litter.:tu:

You state that Shelter dogs are usually messed up then proceed to list a number of known problems that result from the inbreeding that goes on in puppy mills. Which is worse ?
I have rescued 3 dogs and know dozens of examples of dogs that were rescued that were great.
I know that I will never buy a dog and I will never go out of my way to get a "pure bred". Pure bred is complete BS - its totally dependant on the honestly of someone who is running a puppy mill to know the entire family history of every dog.
The only way to be sure of that is to have kept the dogs separate their entire lives.
The genetic and physical problems that result from the selective inbreeding of dogs results in all the classic problems you describe and dozens more that are transparent. hip problems in big dogs, ear infections in cockers, skin problems, spinal problems, and on and on and on. All would have been much less prevalent if nature was given its chance to do its work.

Cathy,
I spoke with my dad and he has a book, its about the size of a telephone book, of all the local breeders as well as shelters to find a new pet. He is supposed to be getting me a list of different breeders and shelters with their numbers. He will start with the ones he has used or people he knows that have had success with. Hopefully that will help. If you have any other questions feel free to PM me so I can get them to my dad
Sorry about the loss, I still remember my first dog that I had when I was 10 years old and passing away last year, his little heart just gave out

You got to know how to pick em.Your right papers is B.S..I never sent my dogs in.My point is you will find a better dog threw a known breeder by paying $.I have seen some nice ones @ Canton flea markrt, you can get one for a 1/3 of what a breeder wants, but they wont have papers and who cares. Its like a good women you got to know what to look for.:d :d I am just trying to help, you guys are poking my eyes out.

Yeah it is ugly. I think it is Euoprean bred. Thier quality is a lot higher for joints and temperment. The down side is they don't care so much for markings. Some of the best working dogs in the country are blotchy and fugly.
This is Bodeus he is one of the best dogs in Texas and he is here in Mansfield. He is a true European bloodline and looks. Here is his page and pedigree.

She's a cutie and I hope she works out well for you. I swore I'd never have a little dog, but gave in to my wife, who grew up with dachshunds. Now I can't imagine being without. I hate to think of the day when we'll be faced with the same thing.
Here's our boy and girl. Stay strong!
