Flowmasters:evil

I know everybody says Flowmasters sound like a$$. I've heard the magnaflows and while they sound good, they're just not my taste. I've used flows on my previous vehicles and I've always liked them. I found this thread on svt performance with some good sound clips.

The setup is a maggy x-pipe and duel flowmaster 10 series.

There is a clip from inside the cab, it doesn't seem to drone to bad until you step on it.
One of the members over there said this about the setup

The in cab sound is perfect (g/f gets annoyed w/ loud trucks) and WOT wakes up the dead. Sitting at an idle is quiet enough for a baby to sleep.....well, almost.


Does anybody here have a setup that is simiar? I would really like to ride and see how it sounds.

A properly installed exhaust is about alot more than just sound. The problem I found with Flomaster was loss of torque. Granted this was 4 years ago, maybe they have made changes. I wouldn't bet on it though.

I put flows on mine when i first got it but they didn't have enough back pressure, so they sounded like Sh*t and my truck ran like Sh*t afterward... just my experience though.

Now I haven't spent the money or had the experience like many of you, that is why I'm asking. I'm just trying to understand.

Right now, my truck is has a PSP Fast air on it. That is really the only mod. I'm just wanting more of a muscle car sound out of it right now:evil . I understand that you should plan and build your truck piece by piece with parts that work together, and in the future there may be a chip and a pulley, but not for now.

Like many say, you're not going to really gain any horsepower or torque with simply putting a muffler on, so I don't see how you can lose much either. I've also read that the stock muffler is pretty well tuned to the truck, and that any aftermarket muffler is going to have a tough job beating the stock muffler as far a performance goes. So if I do lose a couple of horsepower and a few ft/lbs of torque, I'm not sure I care right now. Now of course if the loss is significant, I care. I did actually find a post on f150online where a guy did dyno his stock truck before and after a flowmaster install and reported no loss and no gain.

BTW Michael, that setup sounds good.

Sorry for not replying sooner, I'm pretty sure they were 50 series, but the dude could have put anything on i wouldn't have been able to tell the difference. The muffler man just cut and welded them in place of my stock mufflers sounded like crap and ran like crap afterward, it back fired a bunch... Needless to say i scrapped them quick and the guy wouldn't give me a refund or put a different one on in its place so i just had them in my garage until about 1 month ago i sold them to my freind that just has older ford truck with a 351 in it and they sound good.
