Sorry to hear that Bob. I thought only the really large breeds (like Great Danes) had the flipped stomach issue:confused:

Any deep chested breed can get it Bloodhounds, Shepherds, Labs, Daines etc.. They recomend feeding large breeds three small meals a day. Feeding one large meal a day or leaving food out and open is asking for trouble according to vets.

He was very deep chested and broad he weighed 135 in his prime!! He had a partal flipped stomach which caused a clot and then he had a stroke he survived the stroke but the stomach ended up turning all the way, so we had to put him down due to there is only about a 50/50 chance the surg. would take and still have if down the road!!

We had a Shepherd, Angel, that was one too.
She was extremely bloated when we found her less that 15 mins after we were playing. I have always thought that she was poisoned, could it have been a flipped stomach?

Very sorry for your loss.

Do a search for GDV or Canine bloat. I couldn't find the exact article to paste..

Bobby,

Sorry to hear of your loss as well. We had a German Shepherd growing up named Wolfie - excellent dog. Mom and Dad have pics of Regan and I, as youngsters, playing around in the cold-weather and snow with Wolfie. We think he met his demise at the hands of a local rancher and his rifle.:hammer:

I just realized I've had Junior, my Red-Heeler Cow-Dog, for almost 10 years. He's one friskey, hyper-active dogger! :)

Good luck on finding another pup.

Ronald
