Most big companies block it
The same thing can be done with VPN or remote desktop
But in the end it all depends on what you need to do

we have a ton of folks using it at work here.. it was the only solution our IT dept could come up with to work around the firewall..

One of my doctors uses it, he checks his schedules from the OR for all the different hospitals he has cases at, its pretty cool from what I saw

I've used it before and it does work nicely but our IT dept got remote desktop set up. As Doug said, VPN or remote desktop should be able to do the same thing with no monthly charges. I believe the main difference is GotoMyPC works from any PC, you just log on and "gotoyourpc" vs. VPN/RD which requires some settings. If you carry a laptop to access your home/office PC, VPN/Remote Desktop should be fine. If you want to access your pc from any pc, it might be worth the subscription. GotoMyPC has a trial and if you cancel after it ends, they usually send you discounted offers to get you back. Might save you some money if you go that route.
