IT all began with Daimler-Benz considering selling the Chrysler unit, mainly because of the losses seen in the last year and the increase in US-employee healthcare and retirement costs. Kinda silly, since GM is still tottering rather badly themselves; taking on that kind of obligation load is suicide. :(
