My buddy Ryder is wanting to dyno the Lightning he just bought from Gary and Im wanting to put mine back on and see what its doing right now so I thought I would inquire and see if anyone else would be interested in making a couple of pulls on the dyno (sat 24th). The dyno is located in Saginaw, just a little ways off of 820 in fort worth

He also has all kinds of race fuel on tap!!

Unfortunately, I don't have a whole day available to spend at the dyno. The only way I could do it would be to keep it to a couple of hours. In that case, it might not be a bad idea for the dyno guy to give us a schedule so that we won't be standing around all day. Maybe we can fill in the time slots in advance to make it go more smoothly. Just an idea...

I'd like to go somewhere between 10AM and noon if possible and I know Ronny would prefer the same. Not being anti-social, but the little woman has plans for me on Saturday etc... :tex

NOTE: An Aluminum Foil Deflector Beanie (AFDB) is a type of headwear that can shield your brain from most electromagnetic psychotronic mind control carriers. AFDBs are inexpensive (even free if you don't mind scrounging for thrown-out aluminium foil) and can be constructed by anyone with at least the dexterity of a chimp (maybe bonobo). This cheap and unobtrusive form of mind control protection offers real security to the masses. Not only do they protect against incoming signals, but they also block most forms of brain scanning and mind reading, keeping the secrets in your head truly secret. AFDBs are safe and operate automatically. All you do is make it and wear it and you're good to go! Plus, AFDBs are stylish and comfortable.

Jeff.

We cleaned the intercooler last weekend and changed the plugs and new filter as well. We are going to put a new fuel filter on tonight/early morning and see if that helps. It only does this when you give it a little gas and then let out. I am going to do some data loging and then send it off to get the tune adjusted. I know it's not that far off, because I have had some good blast down 170 and the motor is still running good.

Sounds good, having two 2.6 KB'd trucks on the dyno will be pretty cool

I have a few things to do as well, mainly waiting on my 4-link to get finished up so I can run the JDM Big fuel system while the bed is off, also need to buy coil overs, and a bunch more stuff on the list

I figured once I got a big supercharger and built motor the list would get smaller, but it has only grown

*Update*
John and I tackled a few different things on both our trucks last night. We ran the lines from JLP supercooler in the bed and wraped them with heat insulation to make sure they don't hit the headers if they move for some reason, I doubt they will, the zip ties John gave me were huge

I also started the coolant crossover mod on the lower intake to relieve the coolant that gets collected on the driver side head, will be installing that today as well as putting the midplate and intercooler back on

also changed the plugs which took all of 5 min with the intake off, to NGK BR7's and put a new AEM wideband O2 sensor in

Too bad I wont be the 25th truck at the dyno :(

No trailers allowed in the complex, plus it would get pilfered anyway as I would have to park half a mile away.

You aren't making any boost you need to pulley it up and retune it. It is running good for the 10-11psi it is making. If you have a stock lower pulley you need a 2.75 upper. Tony's truck only made 411 or so at 13psi on a hot off the street pull. When you get to 15psi or so you get to 430ish pretty easily.

I believe my #'s would have been much better with a good cool down. The first hot pull made 417rwhp and 480tq. The second was 411rwhp and 477tq, both at 12-13Lb's boost and a flat 11.0 A/F.

Folks we have a tuning genius on board:bows :D .
The basics are 14.7 is stoich or cruising mix. The lower the number the richer is 11.0 and 13.5:1 is leaner. You want to stay under 12.0 to keep it in one piece. Naturally aspirated vehicles make their best power at 12.6 to 12.7 is where we run most LS1 type configs. Boosted stuff we run under 12.0. Kenne Bell recommends 11.1 A/F for using his blower on stock engines if you read the manual.
The only reason you drove away from that shop was because you aren't making any power to do any damage. Be careful with that tuning. What kind of change netted two whole A/F points? That is a lot for user adjustablility..

Nope doesn't have air/fuel, so I take it they didn't use the exhaust sniffer when you did your pulls?? Do you have a wideband??

http://www.svtgalleries.net/gallery/data/6124/medium/lightning_dyno.jpg Nope. No A/F readings on the dyno pulls. You had to have a wideband in the truck. There was no cool down or tune tweaking in between runs either, one run right after the other.

they have the tail pipe sniffer, but they said its not very accurate, so they wanted you to have wide band they could just hook into the sensor, or an O2 bung they could screw there sensor in to

03-26-2007, 01:34 PM
Yep, both runs about 3mins apart. And when I asked about the a/f they asked if I had one in the trick, then they stuck the sniffer in the ex pipe.
Did yall get to cool down between runs?

A good tailpipe sniffer works just fine. I have used both over at Well's and they were always within .1 through cats, mufflers anything.

Agreed, I can't couunt the # of dyno runs I've made w/ various cars and the tailpipe sniffers are always with .1-.2 of the wideband.

he put down 404hp and i cant remember what the torque was

the tune on it right now is real rich. it needs a dyno tune to work it's best (per steig.). i was gonna have terry dyno tune it but never got to it. i'm sure a 2400 maf will be needed too.

So I have a question about the dyno. Is there a way thru a tune or something we can lock our trucks into a gear so that we could get results from down low to up high?

I mean, if you look at the dyno sheets, right now we are only able to see less than half of our engine range.

terry said he could load a "dyno tune" to were it would lock in 3rd with out down shifting so you could pull from the lower rpms

I load a dyno shift schedule into the trucks for tuning so I can roll them up from 2600rpm. That 80 punch crap is annoying.

I paid $15 extra for it I thought it would be on the sheet??? One of these days when I get some extra cash Terry I want to get a few things done to my truck, it has the engine for life program and the shop foreman said I could do exhaust and intake stuff but I couldn't change out the pulleys. Since you work on these all the time you know what works and what don't. I don't want to spend money on stuff I don't need.

go back up there and ask them to print it out with the air to fuel on it, they save all the dyno files:tu:

fuel is your friend, max it out and see where your at, i think the predator only allows you to add like 10%, but they may have changed it since i had mine a couple of years ago, and if all else fails, get someone who deals with diablo to email you some tunes

one is no better than the other, its all who loads the tune in them that matters, I like the predator because you can datalogg with out a laptop, but i switched to sct because thats what terry used, but most big name tuners can tune with both, I know JLP, RWTD for sure can tune with diablo
