Some of you remember my last bug light project. Well this one should be a little bigger and badder. We used our new CNC mill and lathe to custom fab each part. We even made this crude threading fixture to inset the two parallel channels to retain the stainless piano wire electrodes.:evil

We used a little belt drive setup to keep to keep the dremel cutter and the tube in sync for our 1/8" wire spacing. It was very repeatable as we ran through each groove twice to clean them out.

Then we turned down slices of UHMW and milled recesses to hold the sockets for the T12 bulb. We used UHMW for spacers all the way up the tube for rigidity since we slotted the sides. It should be one of a kind.

We made one 7 years ago back at A&M and it was overkill. We decided to to dismantle it before someone died. We used two microwave Xfrmrs and a X10 multiplier circuit along with a 20kV capacitor bank for that extra kick. It was made of wood and used two round grids of mire mesh. It would hiss and make ozone while it ran:tex . These though not much safer should be pretty efficient and killing anything that touches them.

Finally, Terry found a way to get rid of the noisy hoodlums hanging around his apartment complex all night. I can see the next post "geez the fat ones really sizzle for a while".....:throw:

I checked the electrical field around the fixture with a Voltage sniffer. In commercial apps the sniffer will sound off within an inch or two of 240, 480V systems. I could not get within a foot of the zapper without driving the sniffer crazy. Anyone volunteer to touch it:evil .
