So what's the use of it?

Just to see the temp when looking at it ? Not real useful unless the hoods up I suspect.

Mostly to check water temp, because the older gauges are not that accurate. And a HELL of alot cheaper than buying a gauge, gauge pod and running all that crap.

wouldn't it be more beneficial to have a temp gauge inside the cab when your driving down the road or racing, and not when the hood is open :rolleyes:

I think its a good idea. Do you know how many times I've seen people start to open them things when it was too hot! (I think I'll put one on the wife's Mustang)

That cap might be usefull in a crossflow style radiator because they put the cap on the outlet side of the radiator so you could use it to see how much temp drop across the radiator. By comparing the in car temp gauge ( inlet temp.) to the cap gauge ( oultet ) you could check different fans or a shroud to see how much heat loss you had across the radiator.
