11 year old boy shot a 1051lb hog 9ft 4in in Alabama this month. Shot it eight times with a .50 revolver and chased it 3 hours before finishing it off. It looks like a freaking rhino. I dunno if I believe this though. How do you chase a hog for 3 hours? That is impossible unless they were in a high fence. Also the dad claims they had rifles and were aiming at it incase it turned to attack. If it had been shot 8 times why not just take it down. It all seems a little unbelieveable to me. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070525/ap_on_fe_st/monster_pig_3;_ylt=Ap2EK2fwfSoZeFP1GN0IUXEE1vAI

Why is it that people stand up and scream stupid crap, when they have no idea what is going on? $2.00 worth of shells got that kids family food for a year. Sounds like sound economics to me. Damn city slickers should know math.

Any rancher with land could tell you how much that hogs tear up property and they their turn around is faster than rabbits. I don't think that big ones would be good to eat but under 250lb should be good

I'm with you, I don't think a hog that big would be very good eating either:vomit:.
Some of those negative comments are just crazy. I have to believe those kind of statements are being posted by kids trying to be funny.

I myself believe that the pig would have been worth more $ to them alive then dead. I bet a Zoo or other organization would have put a heavy price on a live specimen of that size. But that's just my 2 cents.

Me and Kyle might be willing to come help you deal with some of those hogs.

I am with you guys in that the negative comments are nonsensical.. if you read the site, they turned it into 700 lbs of sausage and all of it is sold.. so that is economics at its best, hope it pays for the kid to go to college or something like that.

LOL.............You may want to check into the tuition rates. They have gone up a tad since your days....:D.
Maybe it will pay for some of his books for the first semester.:rll:
Normally to make sausage from wild game, you would mix some domestic meat/fat with it. 50/50 is a common mix. So after all is said and done, they would have around 1400 lbs of sausage.
To address the economics of it all. Hunting is usually a bad investment if your looking for a return on your money spent. The shells are the easy part. You have guns, lease expenses, hunting gear...gas to get there....it goes on and on. LOL...we use to joke around at our deer lease about the wild game costing us around 100 bucks a pound and we where probably under estimating the true costs.
For us, hunting has always been more about the camaraderie. The treasured experiences with our sons and daughters. Time in the woods with nature. No phones, no cars....just peace and quiet. Watching the sun rise and set. Making a kill is the gravy.

That makes a lot more sense now. Pigs can get huge when being raised like that. This one was about 2000lbs and 2.5 meters long.
