I saw an update on the news about a street racer plowing throgh a crowd last night in Dallas. In case anyone else wants to watch it. Guess I was lucky to get away with it when I was in HS. Of course I would like to think we were a little different than kids today:confused:

I used to street race back before the station manager of KSCS 96.3 FM plowed into the kids standing at the Centennial liquor store on NW Hwy in Irving. He was in his new Mercedes and decided to show off by driving fast and losing control of the car into a crowd of kids. Killed two or four people and he found himself facing an intoxication manslaughter charge. After that, street racing in Dallas came to a merciful end.

Too bad people have to die at the hands of an ignorant and inexperienced few.

So the moral of the story is................. street racing is OK as long as you know what you're doing?

The rules of the road are black and white. If you chose to go outside of them just be man enough to accept the consequences. They said that kid last night tried to flee the scene. It is no justification for street racing but the odds are a lot worse when you are racing down a gauntlet of spectators (some intoxicated) vs. having an empty highway to yourselves. Besides my thread you referenced was more of a educational experience for those youths than a street race. Those F-bodys will think twice before reving at a pickup truck again:D

When I was in the SR scene people had sense. You didn't return back down the road being raced on, you didn't pull out in front of racers, stand back etc.. Now they have it all screwed up, they race without lights on, drive back down the "track", stand half in the road. Try to race cars with less than 5 liters:hammer: The country is going to hell!:crying:

You would think someone would be smart enough to build a track close enough and open late enough to provide a safe outlet for these eager racers. The 2-3 hour staging lines at Ennis should prove that such a market exists.

There is one and it's real close. It's in Grand Prarie and goes by the name Yellow Belly. :D

If it weren't for the element, which has been that way for 30+ years by some accounts, that location is a gold mine. Better bring the heat if you gonna run at da Belly.

The belly is rough, and I don't think they run at night? I would love a 1/4 mile track nearby. I will miss the YB GTG too:twitch:

Yeah, there's a reason they don't run after dark! I went there a few times myself and made it a point to leave before sundown! I haven't been in a long while....are they still only open on Sunday?

I remember the last time I went, there was a guy with an El Camino that turned the bed into a wet bar! One of the things I DO like about that track is how close spectators are to the action! Unlike Ennis where your like 20 yards away! And that's if you're hanging by the fence!

There was talk a couple years ago about putting one in somewhat close to he horse track but it got denied. They said too much noise....bah...if it's too loud ,you're too old.

Another thought that would make sense to me is having a 1/4 mile out at the Speedway...they wouldn't be able to complain about noise issues then.

Agreed. I've been watching that one closely. As of right now, Bruton Smith has said 'nay', but did not completely rule out a track in the future. After the trip to Hallsville I will join the chorus and say "Ennis sucks". :D

And 1/8 mile is too damn short.

A 1/8 mile is just right if you are racing a Z06 or Supra:D :twitch: they will run you down in the 1/4:burnout:

All the races at Ennis amount to is a TNT for the street races later. I did street race when I was younger and I do not think it's the same anymore.
