I had to join the rest of you since is seems that quite a few of you guys have bought new vehicles lately. I went ahead and bought a new truck.

I was planning to buy Ford and went to test drive a new F150 which I liked but the salesman decided that he was going to help more people and not close the deal with me. Just for fun I went and test drove the new Tundra and the rest is history. After driving the two there is no comparison IMO. They both stickered for about the same price for similar configurations and both are offering great incentives, so the price was not really a factor.

I'll admit the advertisements really capture you attention but what really sold me on the Tundra were the things that they were not advertising. It has 8 airbags standard (fronts, sides, and side curtain for both front and rear). Stability and traction control, if I start to lose it around a corner it applies the brakes to the correct individual wheels and cuts the engine power to regain control (and it actually works). These are standard features you get on the cheapest model and are not even offered on the F150.
I got the base model (SR5) and it comes with separate climate controls for the wife. It has tons of miscellaneous interior storage, cubby holes and compartments everywhere and the 11 drink holders for 5 passengers maybe a little overkill, but nice none-the-less.

I got the 5.7L engine which comes with the 6 speed auto. It seemed stupid to me to get the 4.7L that was a lot less powerful and got worse gas mileage.

I'll post up more pics later but here is exactly what I bought (pic below is not my truck)

That's the one...But after reading thoughly on the forums before I purchased it seems to have been isolated to only those trucks built within the 1st two months and it was only about 20 of them (The real number is probably higher like when Ford said that they only had reports of a few dozen 5.4's spit out plugs). So even if the number is low it's still a small percentage. The good news is that Toyota is giving the owners that had a problem a brand new complete engine and a lifetime drivetrain warranty for piece of mind.

I recently purchased a new DD truck and the styling of the Toyota was not for me.

I had read they would be recalling several thousand trucks for a cam swap but who knows what the real number is.

The color was somewhat unique and hopefully won't show dirt too bad.

I've had it almost a month now and am getting a little over 16mpg in town. The sticker says 16/20, I feel like that will be pretty close to actual with my driving habits.

I also considered the smaller Tacoma but they weren't dealing on them and you can only get them in a V6. With the Tundra I can trailer the Lightning if I ever need to.

I like the look of the Nissan too but knowing a couple of people that have them and they are getting around 12mpg in town I quickly looked elsewhere.

I believe it was the crankshafts?? It's the camshafts, something to do with bad material or poor casting.

The Toyota is the best foreign truck on the market, Nissan doesn't hold a candle to it...

How does the Toyota compare "seat of the pants" to a stock L? How is the road noise, that is always what I disliked about the foreign trucks in the past...

Nice truck Jason and congrats. I test drove one when they had a special demo set up at Bass Pro Shops. I drove the one that had a trailer with 10,000 LBS on it.

It pulled and stopped excellent- I was impressed.

Not crazy about the exterior styling but the interior fit and finish was top notch.

It feels very peppy, I don't remember what a stock lightning feels like anymore but it should realistically run mid 14's in the 1/4. With the variable cam timing and large displacment it is really stong on the bottom end, I have to concentrate not to bark the tires from a take off. It would be a real problem on wet roads without the traction control.

Road noise is probably not the best you can get, However I didn't even notice until you asked the question and got me listening. Up to about 40mph you hear more engine than you hear tire and wind noise.

The exterior styling is very polarizing for several people I've talked to, it's either they love it or hate it. In my case it's one of the things that drew me to it, it looks like a big Tonka truck...

http://www.newcars.com/nissan/titan/reviews/toyota-tundra.html I believe the 08 tundra is going to have a bigger engine.I still think the Titan has better style and they will deal with you. They are offering 0% right now.

I got my consumer reports and they did a full size truck comparison including a couple of 3/4 and 1 ton trucks. The Tundra out accelerated them all empty and with a 7400 lb trailer. I believe it also had the best fuel mileage with the trailer as well. I believe that chevy was the best fuel mileage for an empty truck.

They worked with me on the price a lot. I got mine at straight invoice and I got the 0% for 60months. I could have taken the $3000 cash back but the money spent in interest would have been about twice that amount.

These Tundra's do beg the question how are they offering so much more on extra features and performance for the same price as the competitors and not be loosing money. My theory is that they are losing money to force themselves into the market. I bet in a year or two they will raise the price up to recoup their loses.

Either one is a good choice.I always thought the titan had better lines.

Nissan just about always makes a good motor and tranny. The Titan isn't a bad choice, but I'm biased towards Toyota heavily. That Tundra looks mean. Keep us updated as to how happy its keeping you:). Congrats.
