Look at Amazon.com. They have just about the best prices around for Samsung DLP 1080p's with free shipping. You should be able to pick up a 50" for about $1500 shipped. Here (http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-HLT5076S-UltraSlim-1080p-HDTV/dp/B000N4Z39G/ref=pd_bbs_sr_2/105-1153616-7505210?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1186178554&sr=8-2)is one for $1330 shipped! They have the slim LED one for a couple hundred more.

+1 on the Samsung DLP- I only got the 42" but I love it

+2 on the Samsung DLP. I have one in 42" and one in 60". I also just purchased a plasma 42". I honestly don't see alot of improvement over the DLP. It is slightly more vibrant...I think that's the word I want to use, but the screen burn risk is worrysome to me and not worth it on hindsight.

I have used Amazon and another place called Butterflyphoto with excellent success. Both saved me big bucks. Delivery from both is just like best buy in that they even help set up the TV if you want them to. You can even get extended warranties from both. One thing I would recommend though. Use the exact model number of the set you are comparing. There are differences in the TV's that cause prices to be higher or lower. Don't be fooled by sets that look identicle but have an additional letter or number that make one a cheaper version over another.

The plasma wins the contest of viewing angle. I can stand almost to the side of the plasma and see very little degredation. My DLP's are still good, the picture starts to loose some clarity at about 25 degrees.

My cheap LCD's have great viewing angle. I hoped a DLP would be ass good. I hate the damn station logos in the corner of the screen. Get that fixed image off my screen!:flaming:

Samsung usually makes 3-4 models in each size from cheap to expensive. I wouldn't buy anything under 1080p and LED DLP. That may be a discontinued model. Those are the two things I would look for, the 1080p mainly.

Can't afford the 1080p right now.

Can anyone tell me about how long the shipping takes on that product...I guess I am retarded or something because I don't see it anywhere...I don't want to order it and then wait a month to get it

You can always call and ask them. With Amazon it could be drop shipped from another vendor or from them but they usually are clear and accurate on their timelines.

What is LED DLP? All models become discontinued after about a month...LOL. The little Japs are spitting out new technology so damned fast, there is new crap coming up almost before the old crap get's to the market.

Dont you know it... I went with a projector in the basement for a ghetto home theater.. concrete walls and floor.. demo home surround sound.. but the screen is a keeper no matter where I go and the projector is a DLP unit and HD but not 1080p, not that I have anything 1080p to play on it..

What is LED DLP?

My understanding is they are using tiny LED Bulbs, not sure exactly but I know Mark will have more information, they are now releasing LED TV and projectors, the picture quality is supposed to be 2nd to none, way better than 1080p

it might be time to upgrade the 1080p projector to a LED projector, playing the PS3 and Nintendo Wii on the projector is addicting, the players on madden are life size

DLP requires a super bright light source. The old stuff uses a regular incandecent lamp. You are not supposed to short cycle them, let them cool down and they only last a year or so? The LED's can be switched on and off quickly and are instant on/off. They last 20,000 hours or better as well.

03LightningRocks

Hmmmm. Well the LED thing sounds cool, but I can assure you that the bulbs in my current Samsung DLP are working great after 5 years. There is also no special effort needed to turn my DLP sets on and off. You can "short cycle" them all day long with no adverse affects. There is a cooling fan inside(I can hear it sometimes if I am standing right beside the set when I turn it off) but it is automatic and isn't affected by how I turn it on or off.

Ninja Edit: I read your post again Terry about the instant on/off of the LED DLP. Mine do delay for a second or two when I first turn them on. I got so used to it, I didn't think about what you where saying. My new plasma does come right on.

Mark has the specs but they advertise cooler and quieter operation and faster start up.

It figures they would come up with something cool right after I make a purchase. I do like my plasma though.
